Significance of the Krishna Janmashtami Fast?
On the day of Janmashtami, devotees take a morning bath and, while meditating on Lord Krishna, take a vow (*sankalp*) to observe the fast. Many devotees observe a *Nirjala* fast (abstaining from even water), while others fast while consuming fruits (*phalahar*). Throughout the day, time is spent in devotion to Lord Krishna, singing *bhajans* and *kirtans*, and chanting mantras. The fast is broken at night after the worship performed at the time of the Lord's birth. According to religious beliefs, the Krishna Janmashtami fast grants spiritual peace. Devotees pray to Lord Krishna for the happiness and prosperity of their family, the well-being of their children, and positivity in life. There is also a tradition of worshipping *Bal Gopal* (infant Krishna) and placing the deity on a swing (*jhula*) on this day.

It is considered auspicious to prepare the materials for Janmashtami worship in advance. Place the idol of *Bal Gopal*, a wooden platform (*chowki*), a yellow or red cloth, *Gangajal* (holy water from the Ganges), *Panchamrit*, milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar on the worship *thali* (plate).

Additionally, items such as *Roli* (vermilion), *Akshat* (unbroken rice grains), sandalwood paste, turmeric, betel leaves, *Kumkum*, *Mauli* (sacred thread), flowers, flower garlands, *Tulsi* leaves, *Dhoop* (incense), a *Deepak* (lamp), ghee or oil, saffron, camphor, and incense sticks are used in the worship.
