Vijayadashami, or Dussehra, is a festival that symbolizes the victory of good over evil. In 2026, Vijayadashami falls on Tuesday, October 20th. According to religious beliefs, Tuesday is considered a particularly significant day for the worship of Lord Hanuman. Consequently, this convergence of Vijayadashami and a Tuesday is considered especially auspicious for fostering devotion to Bajrangbali (Lord Hanuman), cultivating courage and self-confidence, and seeking liberation from hardships. It is believed that worshipping Lord Hanuman with sincerity, reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, and serving those in need on this day brings auspicious rewards to devotees.

1. Offer a 'Meetha Paan' (sweetened betel leaf) to Lord Hanuman
On the day of Vijayadashami, after bathing and putting on clean clothes, visit a temple of Lord Hanuman. Offer a 'meetha paan' to Bajrangbali with devotion. While worshipping, keep your wishes in mind and pray to the Lord for wisdom, courage, and the happiness and peace of your family. Ensure that the offerings (bhog) are pure (sattvic) and presented with deep reverence.
2. Offer a red flag
Offering a red flag on Dussehra is considered auspicious. The color red symbolizes strength, enthusiasm, and valor. It is believed that offering a red flag to Lord Hanuman inspires an increase in courage and self-confidence, and may also help in the successful completion of pending tasks.
3. Recite the Hanuman Chalisa
On the day of Vijayadashami, one may take a vow to recite the Hanuman Chalisa seven times. If time is limited, ensure that you recite it at least once with sincere devotion. It is believed that reciting the Hanuman Chalisa provides a spiritual foundation that helps in overcoming fear and negative thoughts, while also keeping the mind steady. During the recitation, reflect upon the virtues, spirit of service, and fearlessness of Lord Hanuman.
4. Offer vermilion (sindoor) and jasmine oil
There is a long-standing tradition of offering vermilion (sindoor) to Lord Hanuman. On Vijayadashami, you may offer vermilion (*sindoor*) and jasmine oil to Bajrangbali (Lord Hanuman), following the guidance of the temple priest. It is believed that this brings the blessings of Lord Hanuman. Maintain cleanliness and deep devotion during the worship. Instead of applying anything to the idol yourself, follow the established traditions of the temple.
5. Recite the Sundarkand
Dussehra celebrates the victory of Lord Shri Ram, and Lord Hanuman is His supreme devotee. Therefore, reciting the Sundarkand on this day is considered an act of profound devotion. You may recite it at home with your family or participate in a recitation organized at a temple. This practice inspires one to strengthen their devotion to Lord Shri Ram and Lord Hanuman, cultivate patience, and remain courageous even in difficult circumstances.
6. Offer *Boondi* or Jaggery and Gram (*Gur-Chana*)
In many places, it is customary to offer *boondi*, *boondi* *laddus*, or jaggery and gram (*gur-chana*) to Lord Hanuman. On Vijayadashami, make a *satvik* (pure) offering according to your devotion and capacity. Afterward, distribute the *prasad* among your family members and other devotees. Providing food to those in need, alongside the distribution of *prasad*, is also considered a virtuous deed.

7. Chant the Name of Shri Ram
Lord Hanuman is regarded as the ideal embodiment of service, humility, and unwavering dedication to Lord Shri Ram. Chant mantras such as "Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram" or "Om Hanumate Namah" with sincere devotion. This practice offers an opportunity to translate one’s devotion into action.
