Significance of the Color Yellow on Thursdays: You may have noticed people wearing yellow clothes or carrying a yellow handkerchief in their pockets on Thursdays. Why is yellow worn specifically on Thursdays, rather than red, blue, or black? In astrology, the seven days of the week are associated with the seven major celestial bodies (planets). The color or items used on a particular day correspond to the planet that exerts its influence on that day.

Why is wearing yellow considered auspicious on Thursdays?
Thursdays are influenced by Jupiter (Brihaspati), the Guru of the Deities; the day is named after him. Yellow is the auspicious color associated with Jupiter. Consequently, wearing yellow clothing on Thursdays is considered auspicious, as it invites the planet's beneficial influence upon the individual.
According to astrology, those with a weak Jupiter in their birth chart are advised to use and donate yellow-colored items. For this reason, people apply yellow sandalwood paste or a turmeric *tilak* to their foreheads on Thursdays. After worship, items such as yellow lentils (*dal*), turmeric, saffron, jaggery, ghee, brass, gold, and yellow clothing are donated.
What is the religious significance of the color yellow on Thursdays?
In Hinduism, Lord Vishnu—the Preserver of the Universe—is the presiding deity of Thursday; his grace leads devotees to *Moksha* (salvation). On this day, Lord Vishnu and the banana plant are worshipped. Since Lord Vishnu favors the color yellow, offerings made during his worship include yellow flowers, turmeric, yellow sandalwood paste, yellow rice, and jaggery.
Those facing delays in marriage or experiencing marital discord are advised to observe a fast and worship Lord Vishnu on Thursdays. Wearing yellow clothing on this day is also recommended.

Thus, the color yellow is associated with both Lord Vishnu and Jupiter (the Guru of the Deities). People wear yellow on Thursdays to please these deities and seek their blessings.
