Treating Muscle Pain: How to Get Relief? These Home Remedies Will Come in Handy..

How to Relieve Muscle Pain: Muscle pain has become a common issue these days. Sitting at a desk for hours, poor posture, lifting heavy weights, excessive exercise, or a lack of sleep are all major causes of muscle pain. Sometimes, exposure to cold or dehydration can also lead to muscle stiffness and pain.

At times, this pain can be so intense that performing daily activities becomes difficult. People often resort to painkillers immediately, but relying on medication every time isn't ideal. You can find natural relief from this pain through simple home remedies and healthy habits. Let’s explore some effective ways to get rid of muscle pain.

Simple Home Remedies for Muscle Pain Relief

1. Hot and Cold Compresses

Hot Compress: If the pain is chronic or accompanied by stiffness, apply a hot water bag or a towel soaked in hot water to the area for 15–20 minutes. This helps relax the muscles and improves blood circulation.

Cold Compress: If you experience immediate pain and swelling due to an injury, a fall, or an intense workout, wrap ice in a cloth and apply it to the area for 10 minutes. This helps reduce swelling and inflammation quickly.

2. Turmeric Milk

Turmeric is known as a natural painkiller. It contains a compound called curcumin, which combats inflammation from within. Before going to bed, drink a glass of warm milk mixed with half a teaspoon of turmeric and a pinch of black pepper. Black pepper boosts the effectiveness of turmeric tenfold. Consuming this for 4–5 consecutive days provides significant relief from pain.

3. Massage

Mustard Oil + Camphor: Heat 100ml of mustard oil with 2–3 camphor tablets. Once the oil is lukewarm, massage the affected area using upward strokes for 5–7 minutes.

Coconut Oil + Clove: Coconut oil is a better option if the pain is accompanied by a burning sensation. Massage the area at night and leave it as is until morning; do not rub vigorously.

4. Stay hydrated

A lack of water in the body causes lactic acid to accumulate in the muscles, leading to cramps and pain. Drink at least 3–4 liters of water daily. Additionally, consume ORS, coconut water, lemon water, or bananas. Bananas contain potassium, which helps prevent muscle cramps. Limit your intake of tea, coffee, and cold drinks.

5. Stretching and yoga

Complete rest when in pain is not ideal; light stretching helps muscles recover faster.
Spend 10 minutes stretching your neck, shoulders, and lower back every morning upon waking up.
Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), Tadasana (Mountain Pose), and Shavasana (Corpse Pose) are considered excellent for muscle pain.
Avoid sitting in the same posture for extended periods; get up and walk around for two minutes every 45 minutes.
