Bored with the same kind of dal, or your kids don't like it? Make hotel-style dal fry at home, which will transform your taste buds, and your kids will love it. You can serve dal fry with roti, paratha, puri, or rice pulao.

Ingredients needed:
1 cup chana dal, 2 large onions, finely chopped, 2 tomatoes, finely chopped, 2-3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped, 1 inch ginger, finely chopped, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, 1 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder, 1 teaspoon garam masala powder, 1 teaspoon vegetable masala powder, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons mustard oil, 1 bay leaf, 2 green chilies, finely chopped, and 4 cups water.

Method:
First, soak the chana dal in water for half an hour. Then, place a cooker on the gas stove and add 2 teaspoons of mustard oil. When the oil is hot, add cumin seeds, bay leaves, and green chilies. Once the cumin seeds are cooked, add finely chopped onions and fry them well. Once the onions are browned, add chopped tomatoes and let them cook.

When the tomatoes are cooked, add turmeric powder, coriander powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, garam masala powder, and vegetable masala powder, and let the spices roast. Once the spices are roasted, add the soaked chana dal and stir 3-4 times. Add 4 cups of water and close the cooker. After 3-4 whistles, turn off the gas and let the cooker cool. Once the cooker has cooled, remove the dal fry and serve.

You can serve dal fry with roti, paratha, puri, or rice pulao. For an extra flavor, you can add a little dried fenugreek leaves or coriander powder.
