Silver Has Been on a Strong Run
Silver has witnessed considerable volatility in recent sessions. According to the quoted bullion-market data, the metal had earlier risen by ₹2,000 to around ₹2,42,000 per kg, including applicable taxes, taking it close to its highest level in more than two months.
For comparison, silver had traded near ₹2,42,700 per kg around April 30.
International prices have also remained volatile. Spot silver was quoted at around $64.90 per ounce after declining roughly 1.3%, highlighting how domestic and international silver markets can sometimes move differently because of currency movements, local demand and other factors.
Why Do Silver Prices Keep Changing?
Silver is different from many other precious metals because demand comes from both investors and industries.
The metal is widely used in electronics, solar-energy equipment and several industrial applications. At the same time, consumers and investors buy silver in the form of jewellery, coins, bars and other products.
As a result, several factors can influence prices, including global silver rates, industrial demand, movements in the rupee against the US dollar, interest-rate expectations, geopolitical developments, investment demand and overall market sentiment.
Local taxes, transportation expenses, dealer margins and availability can further affect the final retail price.
Should Buyers Check Rates Before Purchasing?
Yes. Silver prices can move substantially even within a single trading session. Buyers planning to purchase jewellery, coins, bars or large quantities of physical silver should check the latest local rate before completing a transaction.
Consumers should also remember that the headline silver price may not be the final amount they pay. GST, making charges and dealer premiums can increase the overall purchase cost.
