Bollywood is currently experiencing a trend of sequels and franchises. Several sequels or follow-up films were released in 2025. Some were successful, while others flopped at the box office. This trend of sequels will continue in the coming year, 2026.  Many sequels or new installments of films are scheduled for release in the upcoming year. Border 2

The series of sequels in 2026 begins with the year's first major release, 'Border 2'. This is the sequel to the 1997 film 'Border'. However, the story is expected to be different this time. But the makers have kept the name 'Border 2', which will once again showcase the valor of the Indian Army. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in lead roles. The film is scheduled for release on January 23rd.

Mardaani 3

Rani Mukerji's 2014 film 'Mardaani' has now become a franchise. Two films in this franchise have already been released. Now, in 2026, Rani Mukerji will return to the screen once again in the role of Shivani Shivaji Roy. Directed by Abhiraj Minawala, 'Mardaani 3' will be released in theaters on February 27th.

Dhurandhar 2

The film that created a sensation at the box office in 2025 was 'Dhurandhar', starring Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna. The film has earned over one thousand crore rupees worldwide and is still running in theaters. The makers had already announced Part 2 of this film. Since then, audiences have been eagerly awaiting 'Dhurandhar 2'. The makers have currently titled it 'Revenge'. The film is scheduled for release on March 19th.

 Awarapan 2

The sequel to Emraan Hashmi's 2007 film 'Awarapan', 'Awarapan 2', is also set to release in 2026. Emraan Hashmi will be seen in the film once again. However, this time the film will be directed by Nitin Kakkar instead of Mohit Suri. The film is scheduled for release in theaters on April 3, 2026.

Drishyam 3
In 2026, Ajay Devgn is ready to return as Vijay Salgaonkar to protect his family once again. The third film in the 'Drishyam' franchise, 'Drishyam 3', is scheduled for release in theaters on October 2, 2026. The film was recently officially announced, and shooting has already begun.

Welcome to the Jungle
In 2007, 'Welcome', starring Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, and Katrina Kaif, was released. This comedy film was well-received by the audience. Following this, in 2015, the makers released 'Welcome Back'. Nana and Anil Kapoor remained in the film, but the rest of the cast changed completely. Now, almost 11 years later, the makers are bringing the third part of this franchise, 'Welcome to the Jungle'. However, this film has been delayed for quite some time. It was initially planned for release in 2025, but it was postponed. Now, the film is scheduled for release in 2026. The release date has not yet been announced. Akshay Kumar is back in this film, and he is joined by almost half of Bollywood.

Pati Patni Aur Woh 2
In 2019, 'Pati Patni Aur Woh', starring Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar, and Ananya Panday, was released. The film received a good response. Now, the makers are bringing the second part of this film, 'Pati Patni Aur Woh 2'. The cast of this film is completely new. This time, Ayushmann Khurrana will be seen in the lead role. He will be joined by Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Rakul Preet Singh in key roles. The film will be directed by Mudassar Aziz. The film is scheduled to be released on March 4, 2026, coinciding with the Holi festival.
