Sharad Purnima 2026: Astrological Remedies – The festival of Sharad Purnima is being celebrated across the country today. It is observed annually on the full moon day (Purnima) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Ashwin. According to mythology, Goddess Lakshmi emerged during the 'Samudra Manthan' (churning of the ocean) on this very day; therefore, worshipping her on this auspicious occasion brings happiness and prosperity. It serves as a golden opportunity to please Goddess Lakshmi ahead of Diwali. According to astrology, performing specific rituals on the night of Sharad Purnima can invite the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, fostering happiness and prosperity within the family and helping to resolve various troubles. Let us explore the remedies to please Goddess Lakshmi on the night of Sharad Purnima...

According to the Narada Purana, Goddess Lakshmi descends to Earth on the night of Sharad Purnima and visits people's homes. On this day, one should wear white clothing and worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Additionally, reciting the 'Kanakadhara Stotram' and chanting the mantra "Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah" 108 times is believed to increase wealth and abundance. Preparing *kheer* (a rice pudding) infused with saffron, placing it under the moonlight, and consuming it as *prasad* is considered highly beneficial for health and prosperity.

During the worship of Goddess Lakshmi on the night of Sharad Purnima, apply a *tilak* of turmeric or saffron onto 11 *kaudis* (cowrie shells). Place these at the feet of Goddess Lakshmi, keep a night-long vigil (*jagran*), and chant her mantras using a rosary made of *kamalgatta* (lotus seeds). The following day, wrap these cowrie shells in a red cloth and store them in a place where you keep your wealth, such as a cupboard or a safe. Doing this ensures that there is never a shortage of wealth or prosperity.

For those experiencing difficulties in their marital life, both husband and wife can offer milk to the Moon (*Arghya*), which helps in mitigating the negative effects of *Chandra Dosha* (lunar afflictions). While offering *arghya* (libation), chant the mantra 'Om Som Somaya Namah' 108 times, or as many times as your devotion inspires. It is believed that doing so dispels all problems. Furthermore, worshipping the Peepal tree on Sharad Purnima, and offering a coconut, dry fruits, and a red *chunri* (sacred veil) at a temple of Goddess Lakshmi, helps in the fulfillment of one's wishes.

The *Kojagar Vrat* (fast/observance) holds special significance in West Bengal, Odisha, and Assam. It is also known as *Kojagari Puja*, *Bengali Lakshmi Puja*, and *Kaumudi Vrat*. On this night, one should stay awake and chant the special mantra of Goddess Lakshmi: "Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Kamale Kamalalaye Praseeda Praseeda Shreem Hreem Shreem Om Mahalakshmyai Namah." Additionally, the *Kanakadhara Stotra* and *Shri Sukta* are recited. It is believed that on this night, Goddess Lakshmi blesses those who remain awake with wealth and prosperity.

According to the *Skanda Purana*, this observance bestows opulence, health, and happiness. Devotees stay awake throughout the night to worship Goddess Lakshmi and perform special rituals. The unique celestial alignment on this day holds great spiritual and astrological importance for devotees. Worshipping the Moon and observing the fast not only brings mental peace but also fosters positive changes in one's life.
