Priyadarshan: Are directors shying away from sequels after 'Haivan'? Shares key updates on ‘Bhagam Bhag 2’ and ‘Hera Pheri 3’..

Director Priyadarshan had two films released in 2006. One of them, *Bhoot Bangla*, was a box-office success, whereas the other, *Haivan*, failed to impress the audience. Recently, a sequel to the 2006 comedy *Bhagam Bhag* was announced; however, Priyadarshan will not be directing it.

**What did Priyadarshan say about the sequel? ****
In a recent conversation, Priyadarshan was asked about the upcoming sequel. Responding to this, he said, "I never make sequels because the reason for making a 'Part 2' is that it should be better than 'Part 1'—just as the second part of the *Terminator* franchise was better than the first. You shouldn't make a sequel unless you have a far superior story. People usually make sequels only when the first film becomes a genuine success; so, if you don't create something better than the original, the franchise loses its significance."

**What is the purpose of a sequel?**
Elaborating further, Priyadarshan said, "What happens with sequels is that they try to cash in on the value of the first film. They aren't making a film; they are creating a 'project,' and I have no interest in projects. Even back when *Bhagam Bhag* was made, Akshay asked me if I was interested in directing [the sequel], but I declined. The question is: when you make a film and people appreciate it, why would you want to spoil that appreciation by making a second part? That is why I refuse to direct sequels. I have no objection if others make sequels to my films."

**What did Priyadarshan say about *Hera Pheri 3*?**
Priyadarshan also spoke about the third installment of *Hera Pheri*, a film he had directed. He remarked, "There are many difficulties involved in that—so many difficulties." "I would have to write several chapters to talk about this; I don't think it will ever get made."
