Koffee with Karan: How did this chat show begin, and why did certain stars—including Govinda—not appear on Karan's show?

Celebrities often appear on producer-director Karan Johar's show, 'Koffee with Karan'. But did you know there is a unique story behind the show's inception? While you may have seen many big stars on the show, there are also some who have never been a part of it.

How did 'Koffee with Karan' begin?
Karan Johar wanted to do something different. At the time, most celebrity interviews were conducted in a rather formal manner. Karan wanted the style of conversation with the stars to be distinct and entertaining. He envisioned a show where two film stars could sit together and converse openly, giving the audience a chance to hear untold stories from their lives.

In June 2004, Karan pitched the idea for the show to his father, the renowned film producer Yash Johar. However, his father was not particularly enthusiastic about the concept.

He jokingly asked Karan, "You'll just be inviting your friends over to chat—something you do anyway. So, who is going to pay you for that?" In an interview, Karan revealed that before the show launched, everyone had advised against doing it.
