Significance of Mauni Amavasya
According to religious beliefs, the Ganges water becomes as potent as nectar on Mauni Amavasya. Those who bathe in the Ganges on this day are cleansed of their unintentional sins, gain merit, and attain salvation. The Ganges is considered the giver of salvation, and merely touching its waters granted salvation to King Sagar's 60,000 sons. Prayagraj is the confluence of three rivers—Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati—where bathing is considered highly meritorious. On Mauni Amavasya, people also observe a vow of silence, which is considered an inner journey of self-reflection.
