Khadau: What are the benefits of wearing wooden sandals, and why do ascetics and saints wear them?

People wear shoes and sandals all day long, but do you know how beneficial it is to wear wooden clogs (khadau) at home for just a short time? Today, we are going to tell you about the benefits of wearing khadau. Wearing khadau (wooden sandals) improves blood circulation, relieves mental and physical fatigue, improves digestion, keeps the spine straight, and maintains body balance.

It also helps in spiritual development by preserving positive energy and protects against negative energy, as it reduces direct contact with the ground. Khadau comes in many types, so let's find out which type of khadau you can wear at home and which type is used by sages and saints.

Wearing Khadau According to Size

Men can wear 1-inch clogs, ascetics can wear 2-inch clogs, and Brahmacharis (celibates) can wear 3-inch clogs. Our great abbots, great gurus, and Shankaracharyas all wear toe-strap clogs. A person who wears toe-strap clogs receives many benefits. The lines on their soles—the heart line, the head line, the life line, and the fate line—become stronger. The use of khadau became more prevalent during the time of Lord Rama. If you don't have khadau at home, you should get some and use them during your prayers.

Benefits of Wooden Khadau
Acharya Somprakash Shastri, while speaking to Local 18, said that khadau removes bodily ailments. When we study, we observe celibacy. We wear unstitched clothes on the upper body and wooden clogs or khadau on our feet. Now, I would like to say that khadau and clogs come in many types. There are toe-strap ones, strap ones, and ones with rubber at the back, but here the description is of khadau, and after that, the description of clogs follows. Padukas are small, elevated sandals with a rubber sole, designed for comfortable walking.

These sandals are considered a symbol of our revered teachers and gurus. Their use dates back to the time of Lord Rama, when Bharat ruled for 14 years with Lord Rama's sandals placed on his head and on the throne beside him. Wearing these sandals is believed to bring benefits to the wearer. The standard height of the padukas is one inch, which is suitable for an average man. Two-inch padukas are worn by ascetics, and three-inch padukas are worn by Brahmacharis (celibate students).
