Whenever we need cash or want to deposit money into our bank accounts, most of us prefer using an ATM. The main reason for this is convenience; using an ATM saves us from waiting in long queues like those often found at bank branches. However, it is crucial to exercise certain precautions while using an ATM. Even a moment of carelessness could lead to your bank account being drained or make you a victim of cyber fraud. Therefore, keep the following points in mind when using an ATM:

**Not shielding the keypad while entering the PIN**
When withdrawing money, exercise caution while entering your PIN. Try to cover the keypad with your hand so that no one else can see it.
If you fail to do this, someone standing behind or near you could discover your ATM PIN, thereby compromising the security of your bank account.
**Inserting the card without checking the card slot**
Many of us often insert our cards without inspecting the card slot first. Doing so could lead to money being stolen from your account. Fraudsters sometimes install skimming devices or fake card readers on ATMs to steal your card details. Therefore, never insert your card without first checking the slot.

**Seeking help from strangers—a highly risky move**
Elderly individuals, in particular, often seek help from strangers standing nearby when using an ATM. This can make them vulnerable to fraud. Fraudsters may use the pretext of offering assistance to obtain your ATM card, PIN, or other sensitive banking information.
If you encounter any difficulties while using an ATM, speak to a bank employee instead of a stranger.
