Ahmedabad plane crash and Amitabh's grief
On June 12, 2025, Air India's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (Flight AI-171) going from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after takeoff. The plane fell into a doctors' hostel near BJ Medical College in Meghninagar. Out of 230 passengers and 12 crew members, 241 people died in the accident. Only one person survived, who is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Amitabh wrote in Hindi on his X handle on June 13, “Oh God! The plane crash in Ahmedabad is not just news, it is a mountain of sorrow, that devastated many homes. That plane was not just a machine, it was a ship of hopes of loved ones.” He called this accident one of the most terrible tragedies in the country.
Death of a close friend's son
On June 14, 2025, Amitabh shared another personal grief in his blog. He said that a close friend of his family lost her son. He was young, energetic, and suddenly left the world. Although Amitabh did not take the name, many people believe that he was talking about Sanjay Kapoor, who was Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband and businessman. Sanjay died of a heart attack during a polo match in England on June 12. Amitabh wrote, “It is difficult to imagine this sorrow and pain. We can only pray and give strength to his family to bear this loss.” He shared a picture of Lord Hanuman and wrote “Jai Shri Ram”.

Gave a befitting reply to trolling
After expressing grief over the accident, Amitabh was targeted by some trolls on social media. Some taunted him about his age (82 years), while some called his post a pretense. Responding to the trolls, Amitabh wrote in his blog, "A transparent investigation will give respect to this grief. There is a need to turn grief into solidarity." He demanded transparency in the investigation so that the causes of the accident could be known and such incidents could be prevented in the future.
