Skin Care: Why does your face look dark and oily in humid weather? Stop making these 5 mistakes immediately..

Skincare Mistakes in Humid Weather: The sticky heat and high humidity of June and July can wreak havoc on even the best skincare routine. Do you find that the moment you step out of the house, your face becomes oily and sticky, and soon starts looking dull? We often wonder why this happens despite using expensive creams or face washes. In reality, the fault lies not with the weather but with our skincare routine. Skin requires special care during humid weather. If you are still following your old routine, you might be unknowingly making these 5 major mistakes:

1. Using heavy winter moisturizers—
When humidity levels are high, our skin's oil glands (sebaceous glands) become more active. If you continue using the same thick or creamy moisturizer you used in winter, it becomes an 'overdose' for your skin. Heavy creams clog your pores, making your face look dull and oily.

Make a change: Say goodbye to heavy creams this season and switch to lightweight, gel-based, or water-based moisturizers.

2. Skipping sunscreen due to fear of stickiness—
Many people think that since the weather is already so sticky, applying sunscreen will make their face even oilier. This is a huge mistake! Even on humid days, harmful UV rays penetrate the clouds and damage your skin. Skipping sunscreen leads to skin damage, commonly known as tanning or darkening of the face. Make a change: Don't stop using sunscreen; instead, opt for a matte-finish or ‘non-comedogenic’ sunscreen that doesn't make your skin oily.

3. Washing your face repeatedly during the day—
As soon as sweat and oil appear on the face, the urge to wash it immediately kicks in. However, using soap or face wash 4–5 times a day strips the skin of its natural oils completely. When the skin becomes dry, the brain signals it to produce even more oil to compensate. The result? The face becomes twice as oily as before.

Make a change: Use a mild cleanser only twice a day (morning and night). During the day, use blotting papers or simply splash your face with plain water to remove excess oil.

4. Applying layers of heavy makeup—
In humid weather, applying thick layers of full-coverage liquid foundation, concealer, and compact powder suffocates the skin. Mixing with sweat, dust, and dirt, this makeup clogs the pores, leading to stubborn pimples, blackheads, and a dull complexion.

Make a change: Opt for a ‘no-makeup’ or minimal look this season. Replace heavy foundation with a tinted sunscreen or a lightweight BB cream.

5. Not keeping the skin hydrated from within—
Many people mistake the oil visible on the face for ‘hydration,’ but that is not the case. Having oily skin doesn't mean your skin is lacking water. When the body is dehydrated, the skin loses its glow and begins to look lifeless.

Make a change: Drink at least 8–10 glasses of water a day. Incorporate hyaluronic acid or niacinamide serums into your routine; they provide an inner glow without feeling sticky.

Keep this in mind—
The golden rule of skincare during this humid weather is "less is more." Opt for lightweight, gel-based products instead of heavy ones so your skin can breathe freely and retain its natural glow, even in this sticky heat!
