15th August Special 'Tiranga' (Tricolour) Lunch Recipe: The 15th of August is a special day for every Indian. Across the country, Independence Day is celebrated with the colours of the Tricolour. If you wish to celebrate this day with your family in a unique way, you can infuse your lunch with the spirit of patriotism. This doesn't require excessive effort or expensive ingredients.

A delicious and visually appealing Tricolour lunch can be prepared using easily available vegetables, rice, curd (yogurt), and spices. By creating distinct dishes in orange, white, and green, you can adorn your dining table with the colours of the Tricolour. This idea can be quite fun for children as well. Let’s find out how to easily prepare a Tricolour lunch at home for the 15th of August and serve the meal to guests in a special way.
How to Prepare the Tricolour Lunch
The easiest way to create a Tricolour lunch is to use ingredients with natural colours for the various dishes. This makes the food look attractive and brings out the Independence Day theme on the dining table.
1. Make Carrot Raita for the Orange Colour
Carrots can be used for the first colour of the Tricolour—saffron (orange).
Ingredients
Curd (Yogurt)
Grated carrot
A little roasted cumin
Salt
A pinch of chaat masala
Method
Step 1- Whisk the curd thoroughly.
Step 2- Add the grated carrot, salt, and roasted cumin to it and mix well.
Step 3- Chill and serve.
Make Plain Rice for the White Colour
Step 1- Plain rice or cumin rice (jeera rice) can be used for the middle white section of the Tricolour.
Step 2- Cook the rice in the usual manner.
Step 3- If desired, you can add a little cumin and ghee to give it a mild flavour.
Step 4- Serve it in the centre of the plate so that the white section of the Tricolour is clearly visible. Prepare a spinach or green pea dish for the green element
For the green color, you can make dishes like Palak Paneer, Matar Pulao (green pea pilaf), or any other green vegetable dish.
If you prefer a light lunch, a spinach or green pea dish is a great option.
Garnishing the dish with fresh coriander leaves will make the color look even more vibrant and beautiful.
How to arrange a Tricolor plate?
Take a large plate or *thali* and arrange items of the three colors in separate sections.
Place the saffron-colored dish at the top.
Place white rice or yogurt in the middle.
Place the green vegetable dish or salad at the bottom.
You can create a small 'chakra' (wheel) in the center using cucumber slices or olives.
This way, even a simple home-cooked meal will look special for Independence Day.
Make Tricolor sandwiches for children
If there are children at home, you can prepare Tricolor sandwiches for them.
You can create the saffron color using carrot or tomato spread, the white color using cheese or *paneer*, and the green color using green chutney or cucumber slices.
Cut the sandwiches into three sections and arrange them on the plate in a Tricolor pattern.
This allows children to enjoy the Independence Day theme along with their meal.
A Tricolor salad is also an easy option
You can also serve a Tricolor salad at the lunch table.
For this, use ingredients like carrots, radishes (or white cabbage), and cucumbers.
Slice all the vegetables thinly and arrange them in three separate sections.
Sprinkle some lemon juice and a little seasoning over the top.
This dish is visually appealing and adds a fresh touch to the lunch.
