Governor: Manoj Bajpayee Shares His Views on the Film Ahead of 'Governor's' Release..

Inspired by untold and true events surrounding the economic crisis of 1991, this film tells the story of a man faced with the daunting challenge of steering the nation out of an economic downturn. Interestingly, the film is being released at a time when discussions regarding the economy and economic challenges are intensifying across the country. However, Manoj considers this to be merely a coincidence; according to him, work on the film's script had begun several years ago.

Manoj Bajpayee spoke candidly about his preparation for the film, his days of struggle, the culture of the box office, and his upcoming projects. Read on to hear it in Manoj's own words...

'Economics Isn't Just About Numbers'
'I really loved the script of this film. I felt that it addressed a subject of immense significance—an economic crisis. We haven't seen a character like this very often before. When the subject of economics comes up, people tend to assume it involves a lot of complex calculations and a maze of numbers. There is also the lingering question of whether or not the audience will be able to grasp it. However, the manner in which this film has been written is truly remarkable in itself. Even the average viewer will be able to understand that we are in the midst of a crisis and that the country needs to be pulled out of it. It evokes a palpable sense of "racing against time"—much like a situation where someone has very little time left and must save something precious. The only difference here is that the backdrop is entirely rooted in the world of economics and the RBI.'

An Actor Doesn't Need to Be an Expert in Everything
'I have always been terrible at mathematics. In economics, navigating the interplay of numbers and grasping the underlying concepts is no easy feat. However, as you grow older, you are compelled to gain an understanding of the world around you. Concepts like GST and GDP—we, too, learned about them by talking to people and by reading newspapers. I firmly believe that while an actor doesn't necessarily need to be an expert in every single field, they should certainly possess a general awareness of everything. When you take on a role, that character comes with its own specific profession and its own distinct world. For instance... if you are playing the role of a lawyer, you need to understand why a particular case goes to the High Court and how it eventually makes its way up to the Supreme Court.' "While playing the role of the 'Governor,' I had the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the RBI's operations and various aspects of the economy."

**Today's Children Might Not Even Believe It**
"The era depicted in this film is a time when many things we take for granted today hadn't even begun. Subsequently, markets opened up, nations across the globe became interconnected, trade flourished, and a great deal changed. If you were to recount the story of that era to a child today, they might not even believe it. However, it is crucial to understand that no change occurs overnight; behind it lies the hard work, sacrifice, vision, intellect, and passion of countless individuals. That is why I believe this film is of immense importance."

**Receiving Messages from IAS Officers, IPS Officers, and Even Judges**
"When the trailer for *The Governor* was released, I received a flood of messages. These weren't just from the general audience; I have many friends in the IAS and IPS services, as well as judges and politicians, and I’ve been receiving messages from all of them saying, 'This is definitely a must-watch.' In my opinion, the film has certainly sparked a sense of curiosity among the public—and that, above all else, is the greatest achievement."

**This Film Was Not Written in Response to Current Circumstances**
"I was offered this film four and a half years ago. This means that the work on its story and screenplay had commenced even prior to that. Therefore, it bears no direct correlation to the current socio-economic climate. That said, one thing is certain: people will be able to connect with the underlying theme of economic crisis. While the specific circumstances of the two eras may differ, the subject of economic crisis is one that people can easily relate to."
