Everyone is familiar with skincare essentials like cleansing, moisturizing, and sunscreen. However, facial steaming has now joined this list. Skin exposed to rising pollution and chemicals requires extra care. Let’s explore what facial steaming is and the benefits it offers for the skin.

Facial Steaming
Facial steaming is the process of exposing the face to steam from hot water. However, simply heating water and steaming your face isn't as straightforward as it seems; knowing the proper technique is crucial to avoid damaging the skin.
The Correct Way to Steam Your Face
To get the best results, it is important to follow the proper procedure. Keep the following points in mind:
First, boil the water.
Pour the hot water into a heat-proof container or bowl.
Take a large towel that is big enough to fully cover both your head and face.
Drape the towel over your head and lean towards the container.
Be careful not to bring your face too close to the hot water; the steam should not cause a burning sensation or scald your skin.
Steaming for at least 5–6 minutes yields the best results.
Even if you plan to steam for a longer duration, do not exceed 20 minutes.
Benefits of Facial Steaming
The primary benefit of facial steaming is that it deeply cleanses the skin and opens up the pores.
Steaming opens the pores, which inhibits bacterial growth; this helps reduce acne and pimples.
Hydration is vital for the skin, and steaming helps retain moisture. It is important to understand the difference between moisturizing and hydrating: facial oils and creams moisturize the skin, whereas hydration is derived from water. Steaming gives the face a glow, primarily because the heat boosts blood circulation. Enhanced circulation allows the skin to receive more oxygen, which in turn makes fine lines and wrinkles less visible.
