In this five-day-long grand festival, 'Chhoti Diwali' (Small Diwali) holds special significance. Celebrated one day before Diwali, it is also known as 'Naraka Chaturdashi' or 'Rupa Chaturdashi'. According to religious beliefs, bringing certain items into the home on this day is considered auspicious—a broom being one of them. In Hinduism, a broom is regarded as a symbol of Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth.

It is believed that those who purchase and bring home a broom on Chhoti Diwali invite Goddess Lakshmi into their homes, leading to an increase in happiness and prosperity. Furthermore, it is said to help resolve financial difficulties. Let us explore why purchasing a broom on Chhoti Diwali is considered so auspicious.

What is the reason behind this?
Flow of Positive Energy: According to religious tradition, Goddess Lakshmi resides in homes where cleanliness and purity are prioritized. Bringing a new broom into the house on Chhoti Diwali fosters the flow of positive energy, which in turn benefits the members of the household.

Elimination of Poverty: It is believed that bringing a new broom home on Chhoti Diwali helps eradicate poverty. Using a new broom to clean the house helps remove negative energy.

Relief from Financial Troubles: Bringing a broom into the home on Chhoti Diwali is considered auspicious. It is believed that this practice invites happiness and prosperity, ensuring the continued blessings of Goddess Lakshmi in one's life.

Where to Place the Broom
According to Vastu Shastra, the south-west or west direction is considered the most auspicious for keeping a broom in the house. It is believed that placing the broom in these directions prevents negative energy from taking root in the home and contributes to an increase in wealth.

Never place a broom in this direction
You should never keep a broom in the north or north-east direction of your home, as these directions are considered auspicious for worship and religious rituals. Additionally, avoid placing it in the south-east direction; keeping a broom there can lead to an increase in financial troubles.
