A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection that occurs in the private parts. This infection mostly affects women. The risk of infection increases due to poor hygiene, holding urine for too long, unprotected sexual intercourse, low levels of estrogen hormone, weakened immunity, and persistent constipation.

Although a urinary tract infection is not usually life-threatening, it often clears up on its own in three to four days.
Antibacterial tablets can be taken for quick relief. However, when the symptoms are ignored and left untreated, the infection can spread to surrounding organs, including the kidneys. There is also a risk of the infection developing into sepsis, in which the body overreacts to fight the infection. In such cases, healthy tissues and organs also start to get damaged, which can be fatal. So, let's understand what to do and what not to do if you have a UTI infection.
Girl dies due to UTI infection
On Instagram, Dr. Aditi Sharma shared information about one of her patients. The doctor said that her 28-year-old patient died due to a UTI. The patient had suffered from UTIs three times due to repeatedly holding her urine. By the time the woman reached the doctor for a check-up, the infection had already spread to her bloodstream.
How to identify a UTI?
Pain in the pelvic area
Foul-smelling and frothy urine
Intermittent urination
Frequent urge to urinate
Pain while urinating
Blood in the urine
What to do if you have a UTI?
Drink plenty of water if you have a UTI. This will make you urinate more, which will help flush the bacteria out of your body as quickly as possible. Avoid consuming coffee, alcohol, soft drinks, and citrus juices during the infection. Apply a warm compress to your abdomen.

What to avoid doing if you have a UTI?
If the UTI symptoms do not improve within 2-3 days, consult a doctor immediately. Based on your medical history and the severity of your symptoms, they will prescribe medication. Do not make the mistake of ignoring a UTI. Also, avoid sexual activity until the infection clears up and refrain from using scented hygiene products.
