Nose blockage
Due to cold, allergy, or sinus, there is a blockage in the nose, and the child starts breathing through the mouth.

Enlargement of tonsils or adenoids
If these parts of the throat swell or become large, then breathing is difficult. In this condition, the child starts sleeping with his mouth open.

Respiratory problems
Due to respiratory problems like asthma or bronchiolitis, the child can breathe through the mouth instead of the nose.

Thumb sucking habit
Apart from all this, if the child has a habit of sucking their thumb, then the habit of breathing through the mouth is also formed in the child.

What are the disadvantages?
Dr. Archana Yadav says that by continuously sleeping with the mouth open, the child may have to face many problems in the future. Such as-

Dental problems
By sleeping with the mouth open, the child's mouth remains dry, which can cause tooth decay and gum disease.

Sleep problems

Apart from all this, sleeping with the mouth open can change the position of the tongue and the shape of the mouth, due to which the child may have difficulty speaking in the future.

How to get rid of this habit?

For this, Dr. Archana advises paying attention to some important things. Like-

Number 1 - Consult a doctor

First of all, contact a pediatrician or ENT specialist. They will properly investigate what is causing the problem. Only when you know the problem will you be able to get it treated properly.

Number 2 - Cleaning the nose

Make your child develop the habit of keeping their nose clean. Even due to a blocked nose, children breathe through the mouth or sleep with their mouths open. If the nose is blocked due to a cold or allergy, then give steam as per the doctor's advice or use nasal drops so that the nose remains open.

Number 3- Correct sleeping position

Also, pay attention to the child's position while sleeping. If the child is using a pillow, then do not keep it too high. Along with this, make the child get into the habit of sleeping on his back.

Number 4- Habit of keeping the mouth closed

Immediately stop the child if he breathes through the mouth. Explain to them lovingly and apart from night, make the child get into the habit of keeping his mouth closed while playing during the day as well.
