Make bakery-style, flaky butter cookies at home with this recipe; you'll get the exact taste and crunch of store-bought ones..

We often buy butter cookies from the market or an upscale bakery, believing that we cannot replicate that specific taste and crispiness at home. But what if we told you that you can easily make bakery-style, melt-in-your-mouth, and crisp cookies right in your own kitchen?

Yes, today we bring you a simple recipe that allows you to prepare fantastic butter cookies at home. You won't even need to buy any special or expensive ingredients from the market.

**Ingredients Required for Butter Cookies**
Butter: Half a cup (at room temperature—neither too hard nor completely melted)
Powdered sugar: One-third cup
All-purpose flour (Maida): 1 cup
Vanilla essence: 1/2 teaspoon (you can also add a little cardamom powder for flavor if you wish)
Salt: A pinch (only if using unsalted butter)

**Method for Making Butter Cookies**
First, take the butter in a large bowl. Add the powdered sugar and whisk the mixture until it becomes light, creamy, and pale white in color. If you are whisking by hand using a spoon or a whisk, this process might take about 5 to 7 minutes.

Now, add the vanilla essence to this creamy mixture and mix well. Next, place a sieve over the bowl and sift the flour into the mixture to ensure there are no lumps.

This is the step that requires the most attention. After adding the flour, do not knead it vigorously like roti dough. Instead, use your fingertips to gently bring everything together and form a soft dough.

Now, take small, lemon-sized portions from the prepared dough. Roll them between your palms into balls and flatten them slightly. If you like, you can press a fork onto the cookies to create a lovely pattern. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and arrange the prepared cookies, spacing them slightly apart. Bake them at 170°C for 12–15 minutes in an oven that has been preheated for 10 minutes. Turn off the oven once the edges of the cookies begin to turn a light golden color.

Alternatively, spread a layer of salt in a heavy-bottomed pan, place a stand inside, and heat it for 10 minutes. Then, place the cookies on a plate, set the plate on the stand inside the pan, cover it, and bake over a low flame for 20–25 minutes.

Immediately after baking, the cookies will feel very soft and may break if touched; therefore, do not eat them right away. Allow them to cool to room temperature for at least 10–15 minutes. They will achieve that authentic, store-bought crispiness only after cooling completely.
