Mahashivratri 2025: Mahashivratri is on 26 February. According to the Hindu calendar, every year the festival of Mahashivratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Falgun month. Mahashivratri has special significance in Hinduism. This year a very rare coincidence is going to be made on Mahashivratri, due to which its importance has increased.

Such a coincidence of planets is being made on Mahashivratri which will be seen again after years. On Mahashivratri, Venus, the giver of wealth and prosperity, will be in its exalted sign Pisces, due to which the auspicious coincidence of Malavya Rajyoga will be formed. Apart from this, the conjunction of the Sun and Saturn will be in Aquarius on Mahashivratri. Shani Dev is the lord of Aquarius, so on the day of Mahashivratri, the Sun God will be seated in the sign of his son Shani. Saturn will also create a Rajyoga named Shasha while being in Aquarius. At the same time, Budhdev will also be in Aquarius, due to which Trigrahi Yoga will be formed in Aquarius and Budhaditya Rajyoga will also be formed due to the conjunction of Sun and Mercury.
Importance of Shivling worship on Mahashivratri
The worship of Lord Shiva while fasting on Mahashivratri has special importance. There is a law of worshiping Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati on Mahashivratri. According to Shiv Puran, 'Ling', the symbol of the formless form of Lord Shiva, appeared in the Mahanisha of this holy date and was first worshipped by Brahma and Vishnu. Mahashivratri is also a holy day for humans to receive the blessings of Lord Shiva. On this day, the person who worships Lord Bholenath, the ultimate Siddhidayak, is extremely fortunate. By worshipping and anointing the Shivling, the fruits of the anointment of all the gods and goddesses are achieved at the same moment.
Method of worship on Mahashivratri
To receive the blessings of Bholenath, devotees should take a bath in the morning and go to the Shiva temple.
Bathe the Shivling with Panchamrit made from milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar separately and then mix them, and then perform Abhishek with water.
Offer sandalwood, moli, betel leaf, betel nut, akshat, Panchamrit, Bilvapatra, Dhatura, fruits and flowers, coconut, etc. to Lord Shiva.
Wash the Bael (wood apple) which is very dear to Lord Shiva and apply sandalwood on the smooth side and offer it.
Lord Shankar should be worshipped in all four prayers of the night.
In the Abhishek water, milk should be included in the first prahar, curd in the second, ghee in the third and honey in the fourth.
Chant the Shiv Panchakshar Mantra i.e. Om Namah Shivaya in the puja.
