Before marrying Sanjay Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor was engaged to Abhishek Bachchan. Jaya Bachchan had announced with great pride that Karisma Kapoor was going to be the daughter-in-law of her house. However, due to some reason, both of them broke the engagement. In the year 2015, Amitabh Bachchan told Karan Johar's show Coffee with Karan why their engagement was broken.

Amitabh had put forth his point.

In the conversation, Amitabh Bachchan said, 'It was a delicate moment. Relationships are being formed, and relationships are breaking. This can be sad for any youth and obviously for the family too. We do not want this to happen to anyone but if the circumstances are not good for the union, then you should take different paths. This is what happened with us as well.'

Amitabh Bachchan further said, 'My family has always followed what my father taught me a long time ago. If it is according to the mind, then it is good, if it is not according to the mind, then it is even better. That is what God wants and God will never wish bad for you.'

The relationship lasted for five years.
Karisma and Abhishek were reportedly in a relationship for five years. Their engagement was celebrated with great pomp. Karisma herself had expressed happiness about joining the Bachchan family. She had said, 'It will be great to be a part of this family.' However, the engagement did not last long. The marriage was canceled after a few months. However, no official statement was issued by both the parties. However, it is believed that both the families were not ready for this relationship. Karisma's mother was not happy with Abhishek's success.

Karisma's relationship with Sanjay broke
In 2003, Karisma Kapoor married Delhi businessman Sanjay Kapoor. However, their relationship broke soon. The fight between the two became public. Earlier the couple had filed for divorce with mutual consent but later both of them made many allegations against each other.
