Holashtak 2025: Why should auspicious work not be done during Holashtak? Know its religious beliefs..

The 8 days before Holi are called Holashtak. This year Holashtak is starting on March 7. This time Holashtak will start on March 7. During this time, marriage and other auspicious works will not take place. Holashtak will end on March 13 and Holika Dahan will also take place on this day. Usually, marriage and auspicious works start after Holi, but this year Malmas is starting on March 14. Auspicious works are prohibited during Malmas. This year, auspicious works including marriage will start only after Malmas ends on April 13. Due to the transit of the Sun in Pisces Sankranti, auspicious works are not done for a month.

According to Indian Muhurta Science and Astrology, every work should be done after finding auspicious Muhurats. If any work is done in Shubh Muhurat, it gives excellent results. Due to this religious axis, every work in Indian land is done in a cultured time, that is, such a time which is suitable for the completion of that work. In this way, the auspicious time has been determined for every work.

Especially marriage, Yajnopaveet, new construction, and new work should not be started at this time. This is the statement of astrology. That is, there is a possibility of suffering, many pains due to the work done these days and marriage, etc. becoming a victim of separation and quarrel or the risk of premature death or disease increases. Holashtak means that it is 8 days before Holi, that is, Holashtak starts eight days before Dhulandi. Doing auspicious work is prohibited during these days.

The word Holashtak is made up of two words Holi and Ashtak. Which means eight days of Holi. Holashtak starts from Falgun Shukla Paksha Ashtami and lasts till Falgun Shukla Paksha Purnima. It is also called Holashtak because it starts from Ashtami Tithi. In other words, we can also say that we get prior information about the arrival of Holi from Holashtak. From this day onwards, preparations for Holika Dahan along with the Holi festival start.

During Holashtak, all the planets are in fierce nature, due to which auspicious works do not get good results. In ancient times, as soon as Holashtak started, the place of Holika Dahan was plastered with cow dung, Gangajal, etc. Also, a Holika stick was put there. One is considered Holika and the other is Prahlad.

Planets are fierce
During Holashtak, the Moon on Ashtami, Sun on Navami, Saturn on Dashami, Venus on Ekadashi, Guru on Dwadashi, Mercury on Trayodashi, Mars on Chaturdashi and Rahu on Purnima are in a fierce nature. Due to the aggressive nature of these planets, the decision-making ability of a person becomes weak, due to which he sometimes makes wrong decisions. Due to this the possibility of loss increases.

Those who have a low Moon in their horoscope and people of Scorpio or Moon in the sixth or eighth house should be more cautious these days.

Holi preparations start from Magh Purnima. As soon as Holashtak begins, two sticks are installed, one of which is a symbol of Holika, and the other is related to Prahlad. It is believed that preparations for cremation are done 8 days before Holi. When all the measures to turn Prahlad away from Narayan Bhakti started failing, Hiranyakashyap imprisoned Prahlad on this very date Falgun Shukla Paksha Ashtami started giving various types of torture to kill him, but Prahlad did not get disturbed. From this day onwards, many measures were taken to kill Prahlad every day, but due to being immersed in Bhagavat Bhakti, Prahlad always survived.

In this way, seven days passed, and on the eighth day, seeing the trouble of her brother Hiranyakashyap, his sister Holika (who was blessed by Brahma to not get burnt by fire) proposed to burn Prahlad in her lap, which Hiranyakashyap accepted. As a result, as soon as Holika sat in the burning fire with her nephew Prahlad in her lap, she started burning and Prahlad survived because Agnidev became cool for him. Since then, these eight days of attack on devotion are celebrated as Holashtak.
