It is believed that the five-faced (*Panchmukhi*) idol of Lord Hanuman housed within this temple is *Swayambhu* (self-manifested) and stands eight feet tall. The temple underwent reconstruction in 1882. Subsequently, it was declared a national heritage site under the Sindh Cultural Heritage Preservation Act of 1994.
