As the month of October draws to a close, the weather is changing rapidly. A slight chill can be felt in the mornings and evenings, while the days remain warm. In such conditions, even minor lapses in diet or daily routine can take a toll on your health. Neglecting your eating habits or failing to adjust your daily routine to the changing weather can leave your body vulnerable to illnesses.

Ayush practitioner Dr. Rajkumar explains that with the change in weather and a drop in temperature, the body must adapt to the new conditions. Fluctuations in temperature can affect the body’s immune system and respiratory tract. Furthermore, as the weather cools, people often feel less thirsty and tend to drink less water, which can lead to dehydration.
Common health issues during the changing season
With the onset of cooler mornings and evenings, one may experience issues such as the common cold, cough, sore throat, or viral fever. During this transitional period, people tend to spend more time indoors; staying in enclosed spaces increases the risk of the spread of viruses. Additionally, the cold air during the mornings and evenings can irritate the respiratory tract, which may exacerbate problems for those suffering from asthma or allergies. Some individuals may also experience headaches or joint pain due to temperature fluctuations. It is, therefore, essential to be mindful of your diet and daily routine to maintain good health during this seasonal shift.
Incorporate lentils, green vegetables, and seasonal fruits into your diet
According to the doctor, one should include lentils, green vegetables, seasonal fruits, and protein-rich foods in their diet during this time. These provide the body with essential nutrients. Although you may feel less thirsty as it gets colder, it is important to continue drinking water regularly to prevent dehydration. Ginger tea, soup, and lukewarm water can help soothe the throat. Additionally, one should protect oneself from the morning and evening chill and avoid staying on an empty stomach for long periods.

Avoid fried foods and items sold in the open.
During seasonal transitions, consuming excessive amounts of fried or spicy food can lead to acidity and other digestive issues. Therefore, it is important to maintain a balanced diet. One should also avoid food sold in the open as well as stale food, as consuming contaminated items can increase the risk of stomach infections.
