AI has now entered the world of shopping, transforming the way we shop—from selecting products to curating beauty routines..

A significant portion of the people seen on the streets these days are gig workers. Delivery personnel, with large bags strapped to both sides of their two-wheelers, seem quite happy—and for good reason! With sales underway for online shopping enthusiasts, these delivery workers are essentially delivering joy. Thanks to festive offers, massive discount sales, and various deals, everyone’s smartphone has effectively become a mobile mall.

Nowadays, people are confidently exploring not just their daily essentials but also new international beauty products. This shift is evident even in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. But is this change limited solely to discounts? Certainly not! Driving this transformation are the magical capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the bold mindset of Generation Z, a growing grooming trend among men, and a surging demand for premium products from smaller towns. Within this landscape, the beauty market has seen the most significant growth.

Simplified Discovery
Selecting beauty products online has become more intuitive and precise than ever before. E-commerce giants like Amazon are leveraging AI to completely redefine the customer experience. Siddharth Bhagat, Director of Beauty, Personal Care, and Fashion Accessories at Amazon, notes, "It is true that in today’s digital and festive shopping environment, young consumers—specifically Gen Z—are no longer confined to traditional routines. They are eager to explore new brands and products, readily taking advantage of festive offers and discounts." While people once stuck to the same products for years, today’s youth have become highly informed about active ingredients—such as retinol, kojic acid, vitamin C, and PDRN—and now demand complete transparency from brands regarding their formulations and quality.

Assisting them in this process is Amazon’s AI shopping assistant, 'Rufus,' available in both Hindi and English. Consumers can specify their preferences—such as skin concerns, hair care needs, preferred fragrances, or budget—and Rufus scans the entire catalog to instantly present a list of the most suitable products. Additionally, tools like the 'Skincare Advisor' help customers make the best choices based on their past purchases, specific skin concerns, and budget. This has made discovering products during festive sales incredibly easy, while also enabling brands to reach the right customers more efficiently.

A New Shift in Men’s Grooming
Beyond the youth demographic, the men’s personal care segment has emerged as one of the fastest-growing categories. Men are moving away from generic, household-staple products, seeking instead items specifically designed for their unique needs. Numerous D2C brands are entering this space, and initiatives like the 'PROWL' grooming range—launched by Amazon in collaboration with Tiger Shroff—underscore the growing enthusiasm for men’s grooming. Multi-grooming tools from brands such as Philips, Agaro, Lifelong, and Bombay Shaving Company are among the fastest-selling items; furthermore, men are now moving beyond simple charcoal-based products toward anti-aging solutions and advanced skincare routines.

A More Sophisticated Understanding of Fragrance
In the beauty category, perfumes remain a preferred gift choice, with Middle Eastern fragrance brands—such as Lattafa and Rasasi—gaining significant popularity in India. Rather than relying on a single signature scent, people are increasingly curating a "fragrance wardrobe," selecting different perfumes to suit various occasions, moods, and times of day. Mini packs and travel-sized perfumes are also highly sought after, allowing users to reapply their fragrance throughout the day.

Furthermore, consumers are becoming more discerning; by understanding the top, middle, and base notes of a perfume, they are now able to select the perfect scent for specific settings, whether it be for the gym, a party, or a social gathering.
