Winter Special: The perfect companion for cold weather—whip up a piping hot soup that offers both flavor and nutrition..

As the winter season arrives, the body craves things that provide internal warmth while also supporting good health. In such times, there is perhaps no better option than a piping hot bowl of soup. Soup not only helps keep the body warm but is also packed with nutrients. The best part is that it can be easily prepared using vegetables and spices already available at home. Let’s look at a simple recipe for making a delicious and healthy vegetable soup.

Ingredients
1 carrot (finely chopped)
1/2 cup cabbage (chopped)
1/4 cup bell pepper (capsicum)
1 tomato
1 onion
4–5 garlic cloves
1 teaspoon black pepper powder
1 teaspoon butter or oil
1 tablespoon cornflour
4 cups water or vegetable stock
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Preparation Method
First, wash all the vegetables thoroughly and chop them finely. Heat the butter or oil in a deep pan. Add the finely chopped garlic and onion, and sauté until they turn light golden. Next, add the carrot, cabbage, and bell pepper, and cook for 2–3 minutes while stirring.

Add the tomato and cook until it softens slightly. Once the vegetables are partially cooked, pour in 4 cups of water or vegetable stock. Let the mixture simmer over medium heat for about 15 minutes so that the flavors of the vegetables infuse well into the liquid.

In a small bowl, mix the cornflour with a little water to create a slurry. Gradually add this mixture to the soup, stirring constantly to prevent any lumps from forming. Add salt and black pepper, and cook for another 5 minutes.

Once the soup has thickened and become aromatic, turn off the heat. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.

Benefits of Drinking Soup
Drinking soup during winter provides warmth to the body and supports a healthy digestive system. The vegetables it contains are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which help boost the immune system. If you are trying to lose weight, soup is an excellent choice, as it helps you feel full for a longer period.

Tips to Enhance Flavor
To make your soup even more delicious, you can add a little ginger, some roasted black pepper powder, or a few drops of lemon juice. Serving it alongside toasted bread or garlic bread further enhances the flavor significantly.
