India Post DIGIPIN Geo-Coded Digital Address: Moving beyond the traditional 6-digit PIN code, India Post has introduced the 10-digit DIGIPIN (Digital Postal Index Number). Developed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), this is a state-of-the-art geo-coded digital addressing system. Instead of replacing your existing PIN code, this new system will significantly enhance its precision.

What is DIGIPIN and how does it work?
While the traditional PIN code represents a large geographical area or the jurisdiction of a post office, the DIGIPIN identifies the precise location of your home, shop, or office.

Geo-spatial Grid: Under this technology, the entire landmass of India is divided into millions of small 4-meter by 4-meter square cells. Alphanumeric Structure: It is a unique 10-digit code comprising both letters and numbers. The first 6 digits represent the main region or postal zone, while the last 4 digits pinpoint the exact location.

Precise Location Identification: The system is so granular that distinct DIGIPINs can be generated even for the front door and the back door of the same house. 

Offline Functionality: It is an open-source platform capable of operating smoothly without the internet—that is, in offline mode.

Official Portal: Visit the official 'My DIGIPIN' website or portal of India Post.
Location or Address: Enable your device's GPS or enter a general address in the search bar.
Set Drop Pin: Place the pin precisely over the roof of your home or shop on the map displayed on the screen.
Get Code and QR: A unique 10-digit DIGIPIN and its corresponding QR code will appear on the screen; you can share these for future use or deliveries.
