Light to moderate rainfall is expected in seven districts of Tamil Nadu on Thursday. Additionally, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that temperatures could rise in the state's northern interior regions over the next few days.
**What did the Meteorological Department say?**
In its latest weather bulletin, the department stated that a weak low-pressure area has formed in the lower atmospheric levels over Tamil Nadu's coastal regions. Under its influence, moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, and Perambalur districts during the day. Moderate rain may also occur at some locations in the Delta districts.
**What is the forecast period?**
The forecast indicates that the rainfall will be scattered rather than widespread, with weather conditions varying across neighboring areas. The department stated that moderate rain is likely at one or two places in districts near the Western Ghats from Friday through August 30. During this period, rainfall activity is expected to remain minimal across the rest of Tamil Nadu.
**What was said about the hot weather?**
While some parts of the state brace for rain, the weather could turn hot in the northern interior districts. Maximum temperatures in these areas may rise by up to 3°C between Thursday and August 30. This rise could lead to heat and discomfort, particularly during the afternoon. People are advised to be prepared for these varying weather conditions.
**What will the weather be like in Chennai?**
Scattered rain might offer temporary relief from the heat; however, it is unlikely to cause a significant drop in temperatures across the state. Chennai is expected to have partly cloudy skies during the day. Light rain may occur in the city and some surrounding areas during the evening or night, though rainfall is unlikely to be uniform across the entire metropolitan region.
The weather in the state capital is likely to remain hot. Cloud cover could increase the chances of brief spells of rain in the evening. The Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the weak atmospheric system present near the Tamil Nadu coast and issue updates if there are any significant changes in its strength or movement.
