Vaishakh Amavasya is today; Pitru Dosha can be alleviated through ritual bathing, charitable donations, and Tarpan—know the procedure..

Vaishakh Amavasya 2026 Puja Rituals: Vaishakh Amavasya falls today. This year, two auspicious *Yogas* (planetary alignments) have formed on Vaishakh Amavasya: the *Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga* and the *Amrit Siddhi Yoga*. Performing the ritual bath and acts of charity (*Daan*) during these auspicious alignments on Vaishakh Amavasya is believed to absolve one of sins and sorrows, leading to the attainment of spiritual merit.

Vaishakh Amavasya is a day dedicated to seeking the blessings of ancestors (*Pitras*) and attaining liberation from *Pitra Dosha* (ancestral afflictions). The blessings of ancestors foster an individual's progress and prosperity; conversely, those who fail to please or propitiate their ancestors on this day are said to incur *Dosha* (affliction). **Rituals of Bathing, Charity, and *Tarpan* on Vaishakh Amavasya**
On Vaishakh Amavasya, wake up during the *Brahma Muhurat* (the auspicious pre-dawn period), complete your daily morning ablutions, and then take a bath. The *Brahma Muhurat* is considered the most excellent time for bathing. If you are unable to do so at this time, you may take your bath after sunrise.

After bathing, wear clean clothes. Arrange for black sesame seeds, white flowers, and water. Meditate upon and recall the names of the ancestors (*Pitrs*) to whom you intend to offer *Tarpan* (ritual oblations). Then, wearing a sacred ring (*Pavitri*) made of *Kusha* grass on your finger, offer the *Tarpan* to your ancestors using the black sesame seeds, flowers, and water.

Thereafter, bow down to your ancestors and express that you have endeavored to satisfy them through your words and deeds; pray that they be fully satiated and bestow their blessings upon you.

Following the *Tarpan*, you should perform acts of charity (*Daan*) for the sake of your ancestors. Donate food grains and white clothing to a Brahmin. The clothing should not be stitched garments; instead, you may donate items such as a towel, *lungi*, *dhoti*, *gamcha* (thin cotton towel), etc. Along with these, you should also donate a single utensil.

After completing the bathing, charity, and *Tarpan* rituals, set aside a portion of the food prepared for the ancestors and offer it to birds, crows, dogs, cows, etc. It is believed that by feeding a portion of the food to these creatures, it effectively reaches the ancestors. Consequently, they become pleased and bestow their blessings for the family's progress and prosperity.

**Mantras for Ancestral *Tarpan***
During the *Tarpan* ritual, you should chant the mantra: "Om Pitribhyah Swadha Namah." Alternatively, if you wish, you may also chant the mantra: "Om Devatabhyah Pitribhyashcha Mahayogibhya Eva Cha; Namah Swahayai Swadhayai Nityameva Namo Namah."

**Significance of Vaishakh Amavasya**
Performing *Tarpan*, acts of charity, *Shraddh* rituals, and similar rites for one's ancestors on the day of Vaishakh Amavasya helps alleviate *Pitra Dosha* (ancestral afflictions). Conversely, those who neglect to perform these rituals are said to incur *Pitra Dosha*. Due to Pitra Dosha, individuals experience a lack of progress; the household remains plagued by discord, and situations involving disputes and arguments frequently arise. To propitiate Pitra Dosha, there is also a prescribed ritual known as Tripindi Shraddh.
