The month of Sawan holds great significance in Sanatan Dharma. It is considered the holiest month for the devotion and worship of Lord Shiva. According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Sawan begins on July 30 this year and concludes on August 28. Throughout the month, large crowds of devotees will flock to Shiva temples across the country to seek the blessings of Bholenath by performing rituals such as *Jalabhishek* (offering water), *Dugdhabhishek* (offering milk), and *Rudrabhishek*. Religious beliefs hold that worshipping Lord Shiva during the month of Shravan alleviates life's hardships and fulfills one's wishes. Notably, several auspicious alignments are also coinciding with Sawan this year.

**Auspicious alignment of four Mondays in Sawan**
According to astrologer Pandit Kalki Ram, an auspicious alignment of four Mondays is occurring during the month of Shravan this year. The Mondays of Sawan fall on August 3, 10, 17, and 24. Observing a fast, performing *Abhishek* of Lord Shiva, and chanting the 'Om Namah Shivaya' mantra on these days is considered particularly significant. It is believed that fasting on Sawan Mondays brings blessings of marital bliss, the joy of progeny, good health, and prosperity.
**The tradition of *Jalabhishek* is linked to the *Samudra Manthan***
According to mythological legends, Lord Shiva consumed the *Kalkoot* poison that emerged during the *Samudra Manthan* (Churning of the Ocean). Subsequently, the deities performed *Jalabhishek* to provide Him with relief and coolness. Since then, the tradition of offering Ganga water, milk, curd, honey, *Belpatra* (wood apple leaves), *Bhang*, and *Dhatura* to the *Shivling* during the month of Shravan has continued. Devotees also bring water from holy rivers via the *Kanwar Yatra* during this month to offer it to the *Shivling*.
***Rudrabhishek* removes planetary afflictions and life's obstacles**
Pandit Kalki Ram explains that performing *Rudrabhishek* accompanied by the chanting of the *Rudra Sukta* and the *Mahamrityunjaya Mantra* during the month of Shravan is considered highly fruitful. Religious belief holds that this practice helps eliminate planetary afflictions, diseases, mental stress, and various obstacles in life. Performing this ritual in accordance with prescribed rites and traditions brings blessings of happiness, peace, prosperity, good health, and longevity to the family.

**The Significance of Restraint, Service, and a Sattvic Lifestyle During Sawan**
The month of Shravan is not limited merely to worship and prayer; it also conveys a message of practicing restraint, service, charity, and a *Sattvic* (pure and wholesome) lifestyle. During this period, it is considered highly auspicious to contemplate Lord Shiva and regularly chant the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ while abstaining from anger, falsehood, intoxication, and *Tamasic* (heavy or impure) foods. For devotees, this month is regarded as an ideal opportunity for spiritual growth, self-purification, and the attainment of the grace of Lord Shiva.
