In Hinduism, the sacred festival of Kalashtami is celebrated with devotion and faith on the *Ashtami* (eighth day) of the *Krishna Paksha* (waning phase of the moon) every month. This day is dedicated to Kaal Bhairav, the fierce yet protective manifestation of Lord Shiva. Religious belief holds that performing rituals, chanting mantras, and undertaking specific remedies on this day brings relief from fear, negative energy, financial crises, ailments, and family discord. Kalashtami also holds special significance for *Tantra* practices. According to Acharya Anand Bhardwaj of Ujjain, astrological and religious remedies performed on this day pave the way for happiness, peace, prosperity, and success in a person's life.

According to the *Panchang* (Hindu almanac), the *Sawan Krishna Ashtami* tithi begins at 8:42 PM on August 5 and concludes at 6:52 PM on August 6. Consequently, in accordance with tradition, *Sawan* Kalashtami will be observed on August 5 this year.
**Significance of the Kalashtami Fast**
Kaal Bhairav is regarded as the fierce and protective form of Lord Shiva. It is believed that worshipping him, observing a fast, and offering prayers according to prescribed rituals on Kalashtami helps eliminate the sins, hardships, sorrows, and obstacles of life. Devotees who worship with sincerity on this auspicious occasion are blessed with the special grace of Lord Shiva and Kaal Bhairav. Astrological beliefs suggest that remedies performed on this day can also mitigate the adverse effects of *Rahu Dosha* present in one's horoscope.
**Remedies to Perform on Kalashtami**
1. If you are facing a lack of material comforts and wealth, light a mustard oil lamp in an earthen vessel before Bhairav Baba on Kalashtami and chant the mantra ‘Om Hreem Batukaya Apaduddharanaya Kuru Kuru Batukaya Hreem Om’ twice. It is believed that this helps alleviate financial crises.
2. If there is a lack of peace at home, frequent unnecessary quarrels occur, or family life is troubled, then on Kalashtami—after bathing—sit on a prayer mat before an idol of Lord Shiva and recite the *Shiv Chalisa*. Doing so will foster love within the family, pacify the fierce form of Lord Shiva, and invite the blessings of Kaal Bhairav.

3. If health is repeatedly deteriorating and illness persists, then on Kaalashtami, feed a roti (flatbread) smeared with mustard oil to a black dog while meditating on Kaal Bhairav. It is a religious belief that this practice leads to improvements in health.
