Constipation in Kids: Constipation is a very common problem in children, but sometimes parents fail to recognize it. Pediatrician and gastroenterologist Dr. Jayati Agarwal has shared a video on this topic on her YouTube channel. In this video, she has explained in detail the symptoms and precautions regarding constipation in children. According to Dr. Jayati, if constipation is not identified in time, it can negatively affect the child's studies, daily activities, and overall health. So, let's learn how parents can identify constipation in children and what to do if it occurs.

Do Not Ignore These Signs:
Number 1 - Hard and painful bowel movements
The most common symptom of constipation is very hard stools. The child experiences pain during bowel movements, may cry, or become fearful. Sometimes the stool is so large and hard that it becomes difficult to flush.
Number 2 - Complaint of stomach pain
Due to constipation, the child may experience frequent stomach pain. This pain can persist for weeks or months and makes it difficult for the child to go to school or play.
Number 3 - Loss of appetite
If a child suddenly loses interest in food or refuses to eat even their favorite foods, it could be a sign of constipation. A feeling of fullness in the stomach reduces appetite.
Number 4 - Blood in the stool
Due to hard stools, sometimes small cuts occur on the child's skin, which can cause a small amount of blood to appear in the stool. Do not ignore this at all.
Number 5 - Soiling of clothes (Encopresis)
Apart from all this, with prolonged constipation, sometimes the child involuntarily soils their clothes. The child themselves may not even realize it. In such cases, be sure to check the child's clothes.
What to do?
First, give the child plenty of water.
Include fruits, vegetables, and fiber in their diet. For this, you can give your child papaya, pears, and oatmeal to eat.
Encourage them to develop a habit of going to the toilet at a fixed time every day.
Encourage children to engage in running around and physical activity.
Apart from all this, a gentle massage on the stomach can be beneficial for young children.
When to see a doctor?
If these symptoms appear repeatedly, if there is blood in the stool, or if the child is very distressed, consult a pediatrician without delay. Do not give any medication on your own. The doctor says that with timely identification and proper care, constipation in children can be easily treated.
