On the day of Ashtami during Chaitra Navratri, Goddess Mahagauri is worshipped. It is believed that worshipping this form of the Goddess absolves all sins and removes the hardships and obstacles in one's life. It is also widely believed that Goddess Mahagauri is extremely fond of offerings (*Bhog*) consisting of coconuts and sweets made from them.

Therefore, for the worship of Goddess Mahagauri, you may offer Coconut Barfi as *Bhog*. Making Coconut Barfi is quite simple, and it can be prepared using very few ingredients. Let's learn the recipe for making Coconut Barfi at home to offer to the Goddess.
**Ingredients**
**Coconut:** 2 cups of freshly grated coconut
**Sugar:** 1 cup (can be adjusted to taste—more or less)
**Milk:** 1 cup full-cream milk
**Mawa (Khoya) or Condensed Milk:** ½ cup
**Cardamom Powder:** ½ teaspoon
**Ghee (Clarified Butter):** 2 tablespoons
**Dry Fruits:** Finely chopped almonds and pistachios
**Preparation Method**
First, heat 2 tablespoons of ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan (*Kadhai*). Now, add the grated coconut and roast it on a low flame for 2–3 minutes. Ensure that the color of the coconut does not change; we simply need to reduce its moisture content slightly.
Add the milk to the roasted coconut and cook it on a low flame until the coconut has completely absorbed the milk. Next, add the sugar. As the sugar melts, the mixture will become slightly thinner; do not worry—simply continue stirring it continuously.
Once the mixture begins to thicken, add the cardamom powder. If you are using *Mawa*, mash it and add it at this stage. Adding *Mawa* gives the Barfi a taste that is just like the ones found in the market. Continue cooking the mixture until it begins to leave the sides of the pan and gathers together like kneaded dough.
Grease a plate or tray with ghee. Now, transfer the prepared mixture onto the plate and spread it out evenly using a spoon or a spatula. Sprinkle chopped almonds and pistachios over the top and press them down gently so they set in place.
Leave the Barfi to cool completely for 2–3 hours. Once it has set firmly, use a knife to cut it into square or diamond shapes.
