The country's largest public sector lender, State Bank of India (SBI), has revised the number of free monthly transactions allowed for its Salary Package account holders when using SBI debit cards at ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) or ADWMs (Automated Deposit-cum-Withdrawal Machines) belonging to other banks. The new rules for ATM cash withdrawals will come into effect on October 1, 2026. Here is the latest update from SBI regarding this matter.

Free ATM transactions on SBI Salary Package accounts: What changes from October 1?
For all categories of SBI Salary Package accounts, the number of free monthly transactions at other banks' ATMs will be reduced from 10 to 5 across all locations. This limit encompasses both financial and non-financial transactions.
What happens after the free transaction limit at other banks' ATMs is exhausted?
SBI Salary Package account holders will be charged once the free transaction limit is exceeded. Beyond the free limit, customers will be required to pay ₹23 plus GST for each cash withdrawal and ₹11 plus GST for each non-financial transaction.
Monthly free transactions for accounts other than SBI Salary Package accounts
There will be no changes to the number of free monthly transactions or applicable service charges for accounts other than SBI Salary Package accounts. Customers will continue to receive five free monthly transactions—covering both financial and non-financial types—across all locations. Once the free monthly transaction limit is exhausted, customers will be charged ₹23 plus GST for each cash withdrawal and ₹11 plus GST for each non-financial transaction. These charges have been in effect since December 1, 2025.
Free Transactions at SBI ATMs
Customers receive 10 free transactions per month at SBI ATMs, covering both financial and non-financial transactions.
How many free transactions are available to SBI ATM cardholders at other banks' ATMs?
The first 5 transactions are free at all locations; there is no distinction between metro and non-metro areas. (Previously, the six designated metro centers were Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.) For SBI customers, non-financial transactions and non-cash financial transactions (such as trust donations) at SBI ATMs are free.
Do Salary Package account holders get unlimited transactions at SBI ATMs?
Yes. All Salary Package accounts—including Shaurya Family Pension accounts and SBI RISHTEY Family Savings accounts—allow for unlimited free transactions at SBI ATMs across all locations, regardless of the specific account type.
