Light incense and a lamp (Diya), perform the worship rituals, and recite the *Vishnu Sahasranama* or the *Ekadashi Vrat Katha* (fasting legend). Throughout the day, while observing the fast, meditate upon the Lord and chant the mantra "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya." Devotees observing the fast may choose to consume only fruits (*Phalahar*) or observe a waterless fast (*Nirjala*); this depends entirely on their personal faith and physical capacity. On the following day, during the *Dwadashi* Tithi, the fast is formally concluded (*Parana*) according to prescribed rituals.

Mohini Ekadashi Fasting Legend
According to the mythological legend associated with Mohini Ekadashi, the city of Bhadravati was ruled by King Dyutiman. This city was situated on the banks of the River Saraswati. Living in this city was a *Vaishya* (merchant) named Dhanpal, who resided there with his five sons. He was a deeply righteous and pious man. He had planted numerous trees and saplings throughout the city. For the welfare of the public, he had constructed several rest houses (*Dharmshalas*) and food centers (*Bhojanalayas*) at various locations. He was a devout worshipper of Lord Vishnu; he regularly observed religious fasts and offered his prayers to Lord Hari. His youngest son, Dhrishtabuddhi, engaged in sinful acts. He not only dishonored his father but also insulted his ancestors. Consuming meat and alcohol, and squandering wealth on wicked pursuits, had become his way of life. Dhanpal was deeply distressed by these actions. One day, he expelled Dhrishtabuddhi from the house. Dhrishtabuddhi possessed a few pieces of jewelry; he sold them and managed to sustain himself for a few days. However, once those funds were exhausted, he resorted to theft.

One day, while attempting a robbery, he was caught. Consequently, the King had him imprisoned. In prison, he was subjected to various forms of torture. Upon the completion of his sentence, the King banished Dhrishtabuddhi from the kingdom. He began to wander aimlessly in search of food and water. Tormented by hunger and thirst, Dhrishtabuddhi eventually arrived at the hermitage of Sage Kaudinya. At that very moment, Sage Kaudinya had just returned to his hermitage after taking a holy dip in the River Ganges. As a few drops of the Ganges water from his body fell upon Dhrishtabuddhi, his mind underwent a transformation and became clear. He bowed down in reverence to Sage Kaudinya and confessed all the sinful deeds he had committed thus far. He sought deliverance from them.

In response, Sage Kaudinya informed him that the *Ekadashi* (eleventh day) of the bright fortnight (*Shukla Paksha*) in the month of *Vaishakh* is known as *Mohini Ekadashi*. He instructed him to observe a fast on this day and worship Lord Vishnu with proper rituals and devotion. He assured him that once Lord Vishnu's grace descended upon him, all his sins would be absolved, and his ultimate salvation would be secured.
