Ingredients for the Batter
3 cups Rice
1 cup Urad Dal (Split Black Gram)
1 teaspoon Fenugreek Seeds (Methi Dana)
Salt, to taste
Water, as required
Method for Preparing the Batter
Step 1: Wash the rice, dal, and fenugreek seeds separately, and soak them for 6–8 hours.
Step 2: First, grind the dal into a smooth paste; then, grind the rice into a slightly coarse consistency.
Step 3: Combine both the ground dal and rice to prepare a thick batter.
Step 4: Mix in the ground fenugreek seeds.
Step 5: Allow the batter to ferment for 8–12 hours in a warm place (i.e., do not place it in the refrigerator).
Step 6: During this process, the batter will rise and become fluffy. Now, add salt to it.
Dishes You Can Make with This Batter
Dosa
Add some water to your batter to dilute it to a thinner consistency. Now, spread this thin batter onto a griddle to make a crispy dosa.
Idli
