When a person's horoscope contains the *Kaal Sarpa Dosha*, they often face a multitude of problems. The *Amavasya* (New Moon) day is considered an exceptionally auspicious time to seek relief from this affliction. Worshipping Lord Shiva on this day can provide significant relief from the *Kaal Sarpa Dosha*. Let us explore how you can effectively mitigate the effects of this *Dosha* on the day of *Amavasya*.

**What is 'Kaal Sarpa Dosha'?**
According to Vedic astrology, when all seven major planets in a person's birth chart are positioned between the shadow planets—Rahu and Ketu—meaning they are all aligned on the same side of this axis, this planetary configuration is termed *Kaal Sarpa Dosha*. In astrology, this is regarded as a challenging *Yoga* (planetary combination) that creates obstacles in one's endeavors and intensifies struggles in life.
**Indications of the Dosha**
When *Kaal Sarpa Dosha* is present in a horoscope, the individual often begins to experience frightening nightmares and harbors a persistent, inexplicable sense of fear.
Waking up abruptly due to fear, as well as frequently seeing snakes in one's dreams, are also considered significant signs of *Kaal Sarpa Dosha*.
Despite putting in immense hard work, the individual fails to achieve success, and their plans often go awry at the very last moment.
A constant atmosphere of discord and tension prevails within the home.
Due to this *Dosha*, one may inexplicably develop enmities or conflicts with other people.
**Essential Remedies to Perform**
On the day of *Amavasya*, immerse a pair of silver snake figurines (representing the male and female serpent deities) into flowing water.
Light a lamp (*Diya*) beneath a Peepal tree on *Amavasya*.
Perform a ritualistic worship (*Puja*) of Lord Shiva according to prescribed rites and chant the *Mahamrityunjaya Mantra*.
Perform an *Abhishekam* (ritual bathing) of Lord Shiva by mixing black sesame seeds (*Til*) into holy Ganges water (*Gangajal*).
Donating food or grains to the needy is considered a highly effective remedy for *Kaal Sarpa Dosha*.
To seek relief from this *Dosha*, donate items such as black blankets to the poor on the day of *Amavasya*.

**Other Effective Remedies**
Rather than panicking about *Kaal Sarpa Dosha*, one should focus on its rectification. Worshipping Lord Shiva, performing *Rudrabhishekam* (a special ritual for Shiva), and undertaking specific remedial measures for Rahu and Ketu can significantly mitigate the negative effects of this *Dosha*. Offering water to a Peepal tree and performing seven circumambulations on a Saturday is also an effective remedy for obtaining relief from Kaal Sarpa Dosha. Additionally, to alleviate this affliction, you may have the Kaal Sarpa Dosha Puja performed at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain or in Nashik.
