Hotel Booking Guide: Booking a hotel online has become quite easy these days. You can book a room in just a few minutes after viewing photos, ratings, reviews, and details about amenities. However, the photos displayed online often do not fully reflect the room's actual condition. Consequently, upon arrival, you might face issues regarding cleanliness, safety, or essential amenities.

It is wise to inspect certain key aspects of the room after checking in, especially when traveling with family or visiting an unfamiliar city. A beautiful interior alone does not guarantee a good hotel experience. Therefore, take the time—either before or after checking in—to thoroughly inspect the room. Here are seven things you should definitely check in your hotel room:
1. Room Cleanliness
As soon as you get the room, check its cleanliness first. Inspect the bedsheets, pillows, blankets, and floors to ensure they are clean. Also, check for dust or dirt around the bed or under the furniture. If you notice any unpleasant odors, dampness, or grime in the bathroom, inform the hotel staff immediately.
2. Door Lock
The door lock is crucial for room security. Lock the door from the inside to verify that the latch and lock are functioning correctly. Once the door is closed, ensure it cannot be easily opened from the outside without a key or access card. If there is any issue with the lock, it is best to ask for a different room.
3. Bathroom Condition
Upon entering the bathroom, test the taps, shower, and flush. Check the water pressure and ensure the hot water supply is working. Do not ignore issues like slippery floors, leaks, or broken tiles. Also, make sure the toilet and washbasin are clean.
4. Electrical Sockets
Check the condition of the electrical sockets in the room before plugging in your mobile phone, laptop, or other electronic devices for charging. Do not plug anything into a socket that appears loose, broken, or burnt; report such sockets to the hotel staff. It is also advisable to check beforehand whether the room has adequate charging points.
5. Windows and Balcony
If the room has a window or balcony, make sure to check the lock. Pay attention to whether the door closes properly and if the balcony railing is sturdy. These checks are especially important if you are traveling with children. Avoid leaving windows or balcony doors open.
6. Emergency Exit Information
Upon checking into the hotel, you should know the exit routes for use in an emergency. Familiarize yourself with the locations of fire exits, staircases, and emergency alarms beforehand. Knowing the route to the emergency staircases—in addition to the elevators—can prove very useful in an emergency situation.
7. Room Amenities and Condition
After checking in, take a moment to inspect the room's amenities. Check if the TV, AC, remote, hair dryer, mini-fridge, and other items are functioning correctly. If any item is already faulty or if you notice any damage in the room, inform the hotel staff immediately. This helps avoid any misunderstandings at the time of check-out.
