In Sanatan Dharma, the festival of Hariyali Teej is considered highly auspicious for worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This festival holds special significance for married women and young women of marriageable age. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm and grandeur. It is believed that observing the fast and performing rituals on this day brings blessings of enduring marital bliss, happiness, prosperity, and the fulfillment of the wish for a desired life partner. According to the Hindu calendar, Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The significance of the festival is further enhanced this year by the formation of several auspicious *Yogas* (astrological alignments) alongside the date.

According to Pandit Kalki Ram, an astrologer from Ayodhya, Hariyali Teej in 2026 is extremely auspicious from various perspectives. A rare combination of Saturday, *Siddha Yoga*, and *Shiva Yoga* is occurring on this day. Performing worship during these auspicious *Yogas* on a festival dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati is believed to multiply the spiritual benefits of the fast and fulfill the devotees' wishes.
**Auspicious Timing (Muhurat) for Hariyali Teej 2026**
According to the Hindu calendar, the *Tritiya Tithi* (third day) of the *Shravan Shukla Paksha* (waxing phase of the moon) begins at 6:47 PM on August 14, 2026, and continues until 5:29 PM on August 15, 2026. Based on the *Udaya Tithi* (the sunrise date), the Hariyali Teej fast and rituals will be observed on Saturday, August 15.
**What is the significance of Hariyali Teej?**
Pandit Kalki Ram explains that on this day, married women worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati while observing a *Nirjala* (waterless) or *Phalahar* (fruit-based diet) fast, praying for their husbands' longevity, a happy married life, and enduring marital bliss. Meanwhile, unmarried women worship Shiva and Parvati with deep devotion, seeking a suitable and desired groom. Religious belief holds that Goddess Parvati attained Lord Shiva as her husband after performing severe penance; therefore, this festival is considered a symbol of unwavering love, dedication, and good fortune. He explained that in Indian culture, every festival is directly linked to nature. The month of *Sawan* brings greenery all around, and the festival of Hariyali Teej is celebrated amidst this natural beauty. This festival conveys a message of nature, love, good fortune, and spiritual energy.
**Know the Rituals**
On the day of Hariyali Teej, one should bathe during *Brahma Muhurat* (the auspicious pre-dawn period) and wear clean clothes—ideally green ones. If green clothing is unavailable, one can wear green bangles, a *bindi*, or other green adornments. Afterward, place idols or images of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha, and offer them *Gangajal* (holy water from the Ganges), *Akshat* (unbroken rice grains), *Roli* (vermilion), sandalwood paste, flowers, *Belpatra* (wood apple leaves), *Dhatura*, fruits, and sweets.
Listening to or reading the story of Shiva and Parvati during the worship is considered auspicious. Following this, chant the mantras dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Pray for the family's happiness, prosperity, and enduring marital bliss. According to tradition, women in many places observe a fast throughout the day and perform rituals during the four *Prahars* (time segments) of the day: morning, midday, evening, and night. Finally, the *Aarti* is performed, and *Prasad* (sanctified food offering) is distributed.

**Keep These Points in Mind**
One should avoid anger, disputes, and negative thoughts on Hariyali Teej. During the fast, special emphasis should be placed on consuming *Sattvic* food (pure, wholesome vegetarian food) and engaging in worship. Donating to the needy and giving away items associated with marital bliss (*suhag* items) is also considered auspicious. Religious belief holds that observing the Hariyali Teej fast with devotion and proper rituals brings happiness, prosperity, and good fortune to married life, while unmarried women are blessed with a life partner of their choice.
