Hariyali Teej 2026: Rituals and Observance – The festival of Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15. Falling on the third day (Tritiya) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of the month of Shravan, this festival commemorates the sacred union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. On this day, married women observe a fast—either *Nirjala* (without water) or *Phalahar* (consuming only fruits)—praying for their husbands' longevity and a blissful marital life.

Meanwhile, unmarried women observe the fast with the desire to find a life partner of their choice. According to religious beliefs, worshipping Shiva and Parvati with devotion fosters love and harmony in married life. It is particularly important for women observing the fast for the first time to understand the correct worship rituals.
**Hariyali Teej Fasting Rituals**
On the day of Hariyali Teej, the woman observing the fast should wake up before sunrise and bathe. Afterward, she should wear clean clothes, prepare for the worship, and mentally resolve to observe the fast.
There is a tradition of sending *Sindhara* (gifts) to the daughter from her maternal home for the occasion of Teej. This includes clothes, bangles, sweets, *mehndi* (henna), and items related to *Shringar* (traditional adornment). It is considered auspicious to wear the clothes sent from the maternal home on this day. Since the color green symbolizes greenery and good fortune, there is a tradition of wearing green sarees or outfits during this festival.
Women adorn themselves with *Solah Shringar* (the sixteen traditional adornments) on this day; this practice is associated with marital bliss and good fortune. Subsequently, during the auspicious time, one should worship Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha. Offer *Shringar* items to Goddess Parvati, while offering water, *Belpatra* (wood apple leaves), flowers, and other ritual offerings to Lord Shiva.
Listening to or reading the Hariyali Teej *Vrat Katha* (the story associated with the fast) during the worship is also considered significant. In many families, women present clothes and *Suhag* items (symbols of marital bliss) to their mothers-in-law and seek their blessings.
On Hariyali Teej, women celebrate the festival collectively with music and songs. There are also traditions of swinging on *jhulas* (swings) and applying *mehndi* on their hands. The fast is concluded (*Paran*) according to family traditions and customs. Religious Significance of Hariyali Teej
Hariyali Teej is considered a festival associated with love, marital bliss, and good fortune. According to religious belief, Goddess Parvati performed severe penance to attain Lord Shiva as her husband; consequently, worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on this day is considered especially rewarding.

Married women observe the festival to pray for love, trust, and prosperity in their relationship with their husbands, while unmarried women observe the fast with the hope of finding a suitable life partner. Rituals such as *Solah Shringar* (traditional adornment), applying *Mehendi* (henna), swinging on *Jhulas* (swings), and the use of *Suhag* items (symbols of marital bliss) hold special significance on this day. The celebration of Teej also fosters mutual affection and enthusiasm among women and strengthens the harmony of family relationships.
