EPFO Credits FY 2025-26 Interest to PF Accounts; Here's How to Check Your Updated EPF Balance

EPFO Interest Update: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has started crediting interest for the financial year 2025-26 to subscribers' EPF accounts. Many members have already received SMS notifications confirming the transfer. However, even if you receive the alert, your updated balance may not appear immediately as EPFO continues to update millions of accounts in phases.

EPFO Begins Crediting FY 2025-26 Interest to Subscribers

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has initiated the annual process of crediting interest to Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) accounts for the financial year 2025-26. This comes after the government approved an 8.25% annual interest rate on EPF deposits for the year.

Private sector employees across the country had been waiting for the interest credit, and the process has now begun. Many subscribers have confirmed receiving SMS notifications informing them that the interest amount has been transferred to their provident fund accounts.

However, EPFO has clarified that the appearance of the revised balance may take some time, even after the interest has been credited.

Received an SMS? Your Updated Balance May Still Take Time

Several EPF members have reported receiving text messages confirming that their annual interest has been credited. While this is a positive sign, subscribers should not be concerned if the updated amount is not immediately visible in their account.

The reason is that EPFO is processing and updating millions of member accounts in batches. Since the interest crediting process is carried out on a large scale, the revised balance may take a few days to reflect on the EPF passbook.

Therefore, receiving an SMS notification does not necessarily mean the updated balance will be visible instantly.

Around 34 Crore EPF Accounts to Receive Interest

EPFO is expected to credit nearly ₹1.44 lakh crore in annual interest across approximately 34 crore EPF accounts during this exercise.

According to the organisation, this year's interest credit process has progressed faster than in previous years, thanks to the implementation of its Centralized IT Enabled System (CITES) platform.

The new digital infrastructure has automated several backend processes, helping EPFO process interest credits more efficiently while reducing manual intervention and improving the speed of account updates.

How to Check Your Updated EPF Balance

Subscribers can verify whether the annual interest has been credited by checking their EPF passbook online.

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Visit the EPFO Member Passbook Portal.
  2. Log in using your Universal Account Number (UAN) and password.
  3. Select the "View Passbook" option.
  4. Choose your EPF account.
  5. Check the latest entries to see whether the annual interest amount has been added to your balance.

If the interest entry is not yet visible, there is no need to panic. Your account may still be awaiting processing in the current update cycle.

Why Your Passbook May Not Show the Interest Immediately

EPFO updates member accounts in multiple phases rather than all at once. Because of the enormous number of subscribers, account updates are processed in batches.

As a result, some members may see the revised balance immediately after receiving the SMS, while others may have to wait until their account is updated in the next processing cycle.

The organisation has advised subscribers to remain patient and check their passbook again after some time if the interest amount is not yet reflected.

Can You Check Your Balance Through the UMANG App?

EPF subscribers also have the option of checking their provident fund balance through the UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) app.

However, the EPF balance feature on the app is currently unavailable due to ongoing maintenance work. Until the service is restored, members are advised to use the official EPFO Member Passbook portal to access their updated account details.

EPFO Continues Expanding Digital Services

Over the past few years, EPFO has moved most of its member services online, making it easier for subscribers to manage their provident fund accounts without visiting an EPFO office.

In addition to digital account management, the organisation has also introduced changes to withdrawal rules. Under the EPF Scheme, 2026, eligible subscribers can withdraw up to 75% of their EPF balance, subject to the applicable conditions and eligibility criteria.

These digital initiatives are aimed at simplifying claim processing, improving transparency, and reducing the time required for various EPF-related services.

What Subscribers Should Do Now

If you have received an interest credit SMS, log in to your EPF passbook periodically to verify the updated balance. In case the interest amount has not yet appeared, there is no immediate cause for concern, as EPFO is still completing the nationwide account update process.

With the rollout of the CITES platform and continued digital improvements, the organisation expects faster processing and a smoother experience for millions of EPF subscribers across India.
