Chhath Puja 2026 Date Calendar: The grand festival of Chhath Puja is observed on the 'Shashthi' (sixth day) of the 'Shukla Paksha' (bright fortnight) in the month of Kartika. This four-day festival includes rituals such as 'Nahay-Khay', 'Kharna', the main worship, and the offering of 'Arghya' (oblations) to the Sun God during both sunset and sunrise. Devotees worship the Sun God and 'Chhathi Maiya' (Goddess Shashthi). By their grace, one is blessed with children, and the family experiences happiness, prosperity, and well-being. During Chhath Puja, devotees observe a 'Nirjala' fast—a rigorous fast lasting approximately 36 hours—during which they abstain from consuming any food, water, or fruits. Let us find out when Chhath Puja falls; see the calendar for dates and auspicious timings ('Muhurat').

Chhath Puja 2026 Calendar
Day 1: 'Nahay-Khay' – Friday, November 13
'Nahay-Khay' is observed on the 'Chaturthi' (fourth day) of the 'Shukla Paksha' in the month of Kartika. This year, the 'Chaturthi' tithi will continue until 8:42 PM on Friday, November 13. On this day, those observing the fast take a ritual bath, consume a 'satvik' (pure, simple) meal, and prepare themselves for the upcoming fast. Second Day: Lohanda and Kharna, Saturday, November 14
Lohanda and Kharna take place on the second day of the Chhath festival, which falls on the *Panchami* (fifth) day of the *Shukla Paksha* (waxing phase of the moon) in the month of Kartik. This year, the *Panchami* *tithi* continues until 11:23 PM on November 14. On this day, those observing the fast (*vratis*) do not eat anything throughout the day; at night, they consume only a *kheer* (pudding) made with jaggery, known as *Rasiyaw*.
Third Day: Chhath Puja, Sandhya Arghya, Sunday, November 15
Chhath Puja and *Sandhya Arghya* (evening offering) take place on the third day of the festival. On this day, the Sun God (*Surya Dev*) and Chhathi Maiya are worshipped. This year, the *Shashthi* (sixth) *tithi* lasts until 2:00 AM (past midnight) on November 15. On this day, an *arghya* (offering) is made to the setting sun; the scheduled time for this offering is 5:28 PM.

Fourth Day: Usha Arghya, Day of Paran, Monday, November 16
On the fourth and final day of Chhath Puja, *Usha Arghya*—an offering to the rising sun—is performed. This falls on the *Saptami* (seventh) *tithi* of the *Shukla Paksha* in the month of Kartik. This year, the *Saptami* *tithi* spans the entire day of November 16. The *Usha Arghya* is scheduled for 6:44 AM. After making this offering, the *vratis* consume *prasad* to perform *paran* (breaking the fast), thereby concluding their observance.
