When is Chaitra Purnima 2026? The Purnima (Full Moon) Tithi falling during the *Shukla Paksha* (waxing phase) of the month of Chaitra holds special significance for fasting, ritual bathing, and charitable donations. This year, this specific Tithi spans across two days: April 1st and April 2nd. Consequently, a question has arisen in people's minds regarding which day is the most appropriate for observing the fast and performing the ritual bath and donations. In such instances, consulting the *Panchang* (traditional Hindu almanac) becomes essential. Ritual bathing and charitable donations are typically performed on the day when the Purnima Tithi coincides with sunrise, whereas the fast is observed on the day when the Purnima Tithi coincides with moonrise. Let us explore this in greater detail.

**Chaitra Purnima Tithi Timings**
According to the *Drik Panchang*, the Chaitra Purnima Tithi will commence on Wednesday, April 1st, at 7:06 AM and will continue until Thursday, April 2nd, at 7:41 AM.
**Bathing and Donations: Based on Sunrise**
On April 1st, the Purnima Tithi does not begin until after sunrise (which occurs at 6:11 AM); however, on April 2nd, the Purnima Tithi will be prevailing at the time of sunrise (6:10 AM). Therefore, based on the principle of *Udayatithi* (the Tithi prevailing at sunrise), performing the ritual bath and charitable donations on April 2nd is considered auspicious.
**Fasting Date: Based on Moonrise**
On April 1st, moonrise occurs at 6:11 PM while the Purnima Tithi is still in effect. Conversely, on April 2nd, moonrise will occur at 7:07 PM, by which time the Tithi will have shifted to *Pratipada* (the first day of the waning phase). Therefore, it is considered more appropriate to observe the Chaitra Purnima fast on April 1st.
**Auspicious Timings (Muhurat) and Worship Schedule**
On April 2nd, the *Brahma Muhurat* will extend from 4:38 AM to 5:24 AM, which is considered the most excellent time for ritual bathing. The *Abhijit Muhurat* will be from 12:00 PM to 12:50 PM.
Meanwhile, on April 1st—the day of the fast—the auspicious time for worshipping Lord Satyanarayan is between 6:11 AM and 9:18 AM. In the evening, after sunset (at 6:39 PM), Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped during the *Pradosh Kaal* (twilight period), and later in the night, an *Arghya* (ritual water offering) is offered to the Moon.
