Chaitra Navratri 2026: The auspicious festival of Chaitra Navratri is set to commence in just a few days. From a spiritual perspective, this occasion holds immense significance. It is believed that during these days of Navratri, Goddess Durga showers her special grace upon her devotees, alleviating their sorrows and enhancing their happiness and good fortune. During this period, alongside the grand worship of the Goddess's nine forms, auspicious programs featuring bhajans (devotional songs), kirtans (chanting), and scriptural recitations are also organized. In 2026, Chaitra Navratri will begin on March 19th. Now, the question arises: will the Navratri fasts span 8 days, or will the fasting continue for the full 9 days? Let us explore all these details in depth.

Worship Rituals
On the first day of Navratri, place an idol of the Goddess (Mata Rani) upon a clean wooden pedestal (Chowki).
Adorn the Goddess with a new red chunari (sacred scarf).

During this ritual, offer various other cosmetic adornments (shringar) to the Goddess and apply perfume to her.

Prepare a tilak (sacred mark) using *roli* (red vermilion) and *akshat* (unbroken rice grains) on a clean plate, and apply it to the Goddess.

Next, fill a clean lota (ritual pot) with water; place a coconut—wrapped in a chunari—upon it, and formally install the Kalash (sacred pot).

While doing so, apply a tilak to the Kalash as well.

Adorn the Goddess with a garland of flowers and include dry fruits as an offering (Bhog) during the worship.

Now, light the incense (Dhup), chant the sacred names of the Goddess, and subsequently recite the Durga Saptashati.

Perform the Aarti (ritual lamp ceremony) for the Goddess together with your family, and offer some fruits and sweets as Bhog, which may then be distributed as Prasad (sacred food offering).
