In astrology, the Ruby (known as *Manikya* in Hindi) is referred to as the "King of Gemstones." This red gemstone represents the Sun. The Sun is believed to govern self-confidence, honor, leadership qualities, success in the government sector, and relationships with one's father. Consequently, the Ruby is considered beneficial for individuals whose birth chart indicates a weak Sun. However, wearing it without proper astrological guidance can also prove detrimental.

According to Pandit Kalki Ram, an astrologer from Ayodhya, the Ruby is a gemstone that enhances the Sun's positive energy. If the Sun is weak in a person's birth chart, they may face issues such as a lack of self-confidence, difficulty in decision-making, obstacles to social standing, and strained relations with their father. For such individuals, wearing a Ruby after seeking appropriate advice is considered advantageous.
**Strengthens Leadership Qualities**
Astrological beliefs suggest that wearing a Ruby enhances a person's personality and strengthens their leadership abilities. It is considered auspicious for those aspiring to build careers in fields requiring leadership, such as administrative services, politics, management, the military, or the police force. It is said to empower individuals to express themselves confidently and make sound decisions during challenging situations. The Ruby is also regarded as a gemstone that boosts energy, enthusiasm, and positive thinking. Some people associate it with benefits related to the heart, eyes, and blood circulation; however, there is insufficient scientific evidence to support these claims, and it should not be considered a substitute for medical advice.
**Who Should Not Wear a Ruby?**
According to Pandit Kalki Ram, the Ruby is not suitable for everyone. If the Sun is already exceptionally dominant or unfavorably positioned in a person's birth chart, consulting an expert before wearing this gemstone is essential. Similarly, for those whose charts show the influence of Saturn, Rahu, or Ketu—particularly in positions opposing the Sun—wearing a Ruby without professional guidance is not advisable. According to astrological beliefs, wearing it incorrectly can lead to issues such as mental stress, headaches, eye irritation, arrogance, or financial instability.
Guidelines for Wearing Ruby (Manikya)
According to astrology, it is considered auspicious to wear a ruby set in a gold or copper ring; the tradition is to wear it at sunrise on a Sunday. It is recommended to purify the gemstone with *Gangajal* (holy water from the Ganges) and raw milk before wearing it. While many traditions advise wearing it on the ring finger of the right hand, other traditions hold differing views. Therefore, it is best to consult a qualified astrologer and wear it according to your horoscope. Additionally, astrological beliefs suggest seeking expert advice before wearing a ruby alongside certain other gemstones like Blue Sapphire (Neelam), Diamond (Heera), or Hessonite (Gomed).
