Are banks open or closed today? Find out which states have a holiday for Raksha Bandhan..

The auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated today. Schools and government offices in several states are closed for the occasion. According to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) holiday calendar, Raksha Bandhan falls under the category of regional holidays; consequently, banks are closed in some states while remaining open in others. Therefore, if you plan to visit a bank branch today, it is important to check whether there is a holiday in your state.

States where bank branches will remain closed today include Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Sikkim, and Kerala. Banking operations will continue as usual in other regions.

**Online services to remain operational**

Even with bank branches closed, services such as UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, and ATMs will continue to function normally. Money transfers, bill payments, and other transactions can easily be carried out via online banking and mobile apps. The RBI advises customers to visit the bank before the holidays for large cash withdrawals or other essential tasks.

**When will banks remain closed next month?**

Those deferring essential banking tasks to September should also review the holiday schedule for the coming month. Banks will remain closed in many cities across the country on September 4 due to Janmashtami and Krishna Jayanti. These cities include Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada.

Banks across the country will also remain closed on Saturday, September 12, due to it being the second Saturday of the month.
