First, take a ritual bath, cleanse the designated worship area, and spread a red cloth over the altar (*Chowki*).
Next, create a *Swastika* symbol using rice or wheat grains upon the cloth, and place the lamp directly over it.
Insert the wick into the lamp, fill it with *Ghee*, and—while meditating upon Goddess Durga—light the flame.
